Update:- Brazil got the max votes but no one voted for Argentina yet........ but Argentina has won the world cup twice in the past.... 1978 FIFA World Cup Winners: Argentina Not since they reached the final match in 1930 had Argentina had a better outcome. Hosting and winning the FIFA Cup, the Argentineans rallied from a poor performance against Italy in the opening round, eventually defeating the Netherlands in the final, 3-1. Boasting the top goal scorer of the tournament, Argentina was lead by Mario Kempes and a solid surrounding unit that managed to keep consistent play throughout the tournament and capture the title for its home fans. 1986 FIFA World Cup Winners: Argentina Wining the tournament for the second time in three tries, the Argentina team, led by Diego Maradona, captured the title with a victory over West Germany, 3-2. In one of its games versus England, he dubbed one of his two goals as "the hand of God." The tournament was originally to be awarded to Columbia, but in 1983 they announced that they could no longer afford to stage football's grandest stage. Also noted was the terrible earthquake that devastated the country beforehand, but was not to postpone this event that brought joy to so many after the fact.

Kahn will play for Germany again, says Bierhoff 15 April 2006 by AFP Germany's general manager Oliver Bierhoff says goalkeeper Oliver Kahn has not played his last game for his country and could be awarded a special send-off game in recognition of his service to the national team. "I am sure that Oliver Kahn will play another international whatever happens," Bierhoff told Kicker magazine. "We no longer have farewell games in international football but we should give him something fitting." Kahn won his 84th cap against the United States on 22 March but Germany coach Jurgen Klinsman has since informed him that he is second choice at this summer's FIFA World Cupâ„¢ behind Arsenal's Jens Lehmann. Kahn will travel with the squad to provide support but unless Lehmann is injured, the Bayern Munich man will be on the substitutes' bench and is expected to retire after the finals. The 36-year-old Kahn had been Germany's number one goalkeeper since 1998 and was voted the best player at the 2002 FIFA World Cup after helping his country reach the final.

England World Cup outsiders without Rooney: Robson 30/04/2006 - 10:34:54 Bobby Robson believes England have gone from ?possible World Cup winners to outsiders? following Wayne Rooney?s broken foot. The Manchester United striker broke the fourth metatarsal in his right foot in yesterday?s 3-0 defeat by Chelsea and could miss the entire tournament. ?The news about Wayne is depressingly sad,? former England boss Robson told BBC Radio Five Live?s Sportsweek programme. ?Without him we?ve gone from possible World Cup winners to outsiders. You cannot replace Rooney. I don?t think there?s another player like him in the country or in Europe. ?He?s a very special player and without him our chances are dim. Undoubtedly England are outsiders without him. ?People who win World Cups are top individuals. Who won the World Cup for Argentina in 1986? I?ll tell you ? it was Diego Maradona.? Initial estimates are that Rooney will be out for six weeks, meaning he could yet figure in the knockout stages with the World Cup due to start in 40 days. But he was out for 14 weeks after sustaining a similar injury during England?s Euro 2004 campaign and Robson has called for clarification on when the 20-year-old will return. The former Newcastle boss and current Republic of Ireland management advisor insists that Rooney must be taken to Germany if there is a chance he will figure beyond the group stages. ?We need top medical advice. We need a decision on how long it will take for him to recover,? he said. ?If it?s two weeks does that mean he can play within six weeks, or does it mean six weeks recuperation time and then he can start training? ?If it?s six weeks out then he can?t make it. But if he?s playing within six weeks then you take him. We have enough quality to beat the teams we will face in the group matches without him. ?What you need is your top players for the quarters, semis and final. That?s when Rooney becomes crucial. If you can get him back for the quarter-finals then you take a chance and take him. ?You take five strikers anyway and one could be a lame duck right until the end.?

Why isn't Argentina as one of the option above? Argentina have one of the best squad for this WC, and they have the best balanced team overall above Brazil. However the only headache for Argentina is their GoalKeeper. Leo Franco who plays from Atl Madrid has not been the first option to the Argies and Pato is considered to be the No. 1 goalie. Pato is disastrous to watch, he is awful keeper and he makes Argentina chance to win the WC very doubtful. other than Goalie problem , Albecielste have everything in their way. they have one of the most experienced Defence line up in the WC, they have one of the best Midfield in the World with the playmaker Riquelme, who is better than Ronaldinho to pass ball and distribute it to his strikers. and their attack is also one of the best with young strikers like Lionel Messi and Carlos Tevez with the veteran Crespo himself, who happens to be in the right poisiton at the right time. here is Argie's probable line up: ------------------Franco(Atl Madrid)------------------- --Zanetti(Inter)---Ayala(Valencia)------Heinze(ManU)--Sorin(Villarreal) ----------------Cambiasso(Inter)--------Mascherano(Corinthias) -------------------------Riquelme(Villarreal)------------------- -------Messi(Barca)------------------------------------------------ ----------------Crespo(Chelsea)-----------------------Tevez(corinthias)--------------- players like Aimar(Valencia), Lucho Gonzalez(Porto), Saviola(Sevilla), Samuel(Inter), G.Milito(Zaragoza), D Milito(Zaragoza), Demischelles(Bayern Munchen),Colocini(Deportivo), will be in bench. there are many Argentinian youngsters like Gago, Zabaleta, Paleta, Palacio who won't make this WC. but 17 years old sensational kid Sergio Aguero is more likely to make it to the WC as everyone in Argentina are pressuring Pekerman to take him. he is one of the best young talent in the world and Bayern Munich have shown their interest with 16M euro already. the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona are also on the race to sign 17 year old. this side is more than capable of winning the WC, as everyone knows Brazil is also the favourite, but they have lackluster defence which may cost them this WC. other favourites to win the cup are Germany, Italy and England. Amongst these 5 one will be the winner. Mark my word. Argentinina fan.
