Hey thats what I heard. It's a very sad news because I know few people are waiting to apply for the summer semester. Actually, a very good friend of my mine was to apply soon and he is just frustrated by this news. Do you guys know any other way he could apply for student visa? His classes start around May 20th. Thanks.

I hope this is just a temporary thing. It will be sad if they decide to close down permanently where Nepalese would be require to go to India to get a US Visa.

- http://www.dailyindia.com/show/16730.php/Kathmandu_curfew_lifted_after_US_diplomatic_slap_(OVERALL_LEAD) Following nearly a week of violence and three warnings by Washington to King Gyanendra in a week that went unheeded, the US embassy virtually dropped a bomb with the announcement. 'Due to ongoing violence, curfews and widespread insecurity in Nepal, the US mission is reducing its activities, including cancelling a planned visit Wednesday by an eight-member delegation from the US House of Representatives,' a statement issued by the US embassy said. 'In scaling back activities, the mission - including the embassy, USAID, and the Consular Section and American Center has gone to minimal staffing. The Consular Section and American Center Library have been closed until further notice.'

April 10, 2006 Statement by Sean McCormack, Spokesman Nepal: A Message for the King As a friend of Nepal, we must state that King Gyanendra's decision fourteen months ago to impose direct palace rule in Nepal has failed in every regard. The demonstrations, deaths, arrests, and Maoist attacks in the past few days have shown there is more insecurity, not less. The King's continuing failure to bring the parties back into a process to restore democracy has compounded the problem. The United States calls upon the King to restore democracy immediately and to begin a dialogue with Nepal's constitutional political parties. It is time the King recognizes that this is the best way to deal with the Maoist insurgency and to return peace and prosperity to Nepal. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The American Center Library and Consular Section are closed until further notice. American citizens requiring emergency assistance should call 441-1179 and ask for the Consular Duty Officer.

American embassy in Delhi should consider the Nepalese applicants for the time being. Contact them whether this is possible or not.

I think INdia must be very happy now... that's exactly india wants to happen - US embassy being closed in Nepal.. so that India willhave now better grip in Nepal... All these Gyane, Maoists and 7 paties are responsible for this... as I told you all, these three power hunger factions are actually being pieces of Chess moved by India!!!
