I'm not trying to digress from your question. But there seems to be some misunderstanding as birbhadra has pointed. Are we talking about democracy for only NC n' UML or whole nepalese? Democracy gave this crook Kamal Thapa to be minister during democracy too. It is open to everyone n' as we've so many problems n' poverty. It's not surprising that there're so many corrupted people. But I'm optimistic that democracy can atleast lead somewhere, but what do you expect from this regime? There's no democracy in NC or UML. That's why they got split n' they're the one who're gonna suffer during elections too. But we're talking about our democracy not for parties' democracy. If we get good democracy n' can also have peace with maoists, besides NC n' UML, royalists's party n' maoists will also goto election. Democracy is not meant only for parties; it's for people. Please do not forget that it's democracy (after 1990) that gave us private universities n' schools, private independent newspapers, FM stations, TVs, NGOs. However, it also gave us corruption, but it allows people to raise voice or write against the gov; it is the one who made CIAA more powerful. Even here, you know the situation, and last month only a senator or a politician (i forgot it exactly) from california faced corruption charges. But atleast you can write or file protest or file case at court. But how about current regime? They don't even let you sit in groups. Please free to raise questions (but please do not come in verbal assaults, if u've guts, please no bad words).

Gwaje, let us be clear about one fundamental thing here: There was no democracy after 1990 PERIOD (unless you are talking about bahuns, they had all of it)). And if you are going to fight for post 1990 era democracy, then you are not trying to bring any change at fundamental level in peoples lives. All you are trying to do is transfer power from the Shah royals to the "bhahun" royals, the only difference is that you do it in the name of democracy. Really, what did change for the rest? You want me to give you the stats? And right now they control the parties, and so they control who ought to be nominated for election and therefore who gets to participate in the parliament. Why is it necessary to revive HoR first?...well, guess where that idea spawns from? Let me give you a hint...they come from the priestly class, the SUPREME class in Hinduism, and they are not supposed to eat the things rest of the LOWER cast people touch. Got it! So right now, while the people who control the parties are weak, rest of the people in the country need to step up and tell them, hey if you want to preach us about democracy, start first by setting an example. In short bring democracy first in the vehicle PERIOD. Aren't the parties supposed to be leading the fight for everyone is Nepal? but where is the representation? If they don't do it now...then when?

Haude, The last thing we need in Nepal is racial slurs, and bickering over caste....Dude, haven't u learned a little being here in the USA......Royalist is not good, neither was democracy in Nepal.....Democracy in Nepal was just for leaders..who made fortune at out country's expense, and at our expense...yours, mine and all Nepalese......And, Maoists are the worst....give me once example where war has brought prosperiety and PEACE.......??? Never happened, never will. All Moaists are trying is to impose their will, like the Royalists are doing right now...Maoists are no better than Taliban in Afganisthan. They will force their way into public lives....Example, destroying temples, ....Tell me why do u have to be against GOD and the infrastructure to bring peace......Moaists ain't trying to build our country..they are destroying it, until they get what they want....their way of government which will be more corrupt than the Congress, UML, or the Royals......No, I'm neither a Royalist, nor a Congress or UML, and Hell I ain't no Maoists either. Im a Nepali like we all are,...and All I want is Peace....so, when I am walking in the streets of Kathmandu, I don't have to fear if I'll be shot by Police/Army, or blown up by Maosit planted Bombs........If someone can say none of those will happen, I'll support them......PEACE......

Rider Jee, bickering, discussing about caste is not the last thing nepal needs. In fact that is the first thing that needs to be put on the table. The whole mess is because of this age old system of brahminism. The question of monarchy as many of these bahuns put it, is not the most important thing at the moment (of course for them it is, because only the Raja stands on their way, to them it is the question of who is more powerful: Raj or them). Monarchy will have to go sooner or later, but what follows after that will define if there will be peace or not. And if it is back to same system of Brahminism, you will get more war. It looks like you have not lived outside of kathmandu, so your understanding of the present civil war is just limited to corruption, unfortunately.

Haude Ji, I am glad you said that's the first thing Nepal needs to talk about.....Then, can u blame Ganesh Man for putting Nepal in this current quandry....When he had a chance to become the Prime Minister, he put Bhattarai infront of him....had he been in power, Girija might have never been the Prime Minister and be able to corrupt the country the way he did after the 1990s...He is the sole reason we have Moaists....Well, what's left to talk about Maoists....those AO cowards.....when they were defeated in the polls in the 90s, they went underground, realized they can't win any election to get what they wanted, and started teh politics of FEAR....looting, and God knows what else they do.....murdering innocent peoples.....I am not a brahamin either...but what is going on right now is very very unfortunate...I'm sure you agree on that....At the end of the day, I want what you want too...Peace and Prosperity in the country...I'm not sure anyone in the scene right now can deliver that.....someone said on a different, we need a fresh start...a new hero to save NEPAL from the hands of Maoists and the King alike....not forgetting corrupt Congress, UML and RPPs...May PEACE prevail !

before blaming any ethnicities please tell us what your ethnicity as well, then only we can start a very good and planned ethnic bickering otherwise it won't be useful just blaming the bahuns. categorically i am a nepali hill bahun. never in my life i have taken anything from anybody that doesn't belong to me without paying the price. i have never caused any harm to anybody, ( knowingly) physically, mentally or otherwise. just because girija and makune are bahuns you can't say all bahuns are bad or they exploited the democracy. there are other ethnic groups also who are in politics and have taken ghus and what not. however point to be noted is that bahun and chettris are in large numbers hence they seem to be everywhere but that is just that ! do your math , it is all probability dependent. yes please tell us your ethnicity and guarantee that people of your ethnicity are the most honest, good and what not. lets have thiis debate once and for all

Birbhadra dai, alas! do not take offense of what I have said, and surely you must realize that I am not trying to say all bahuns are bad, corrupt and needs a kick on their ass. If you are to think about it carefully, you will see that infact I am actually blaming this culture of brahminism that has been there for ages. Unfortunately, bahuns are the ones at the top of this hierarchy followed by the rest and at the bottom are the dalits/untouchables (and what to make of rest of the people who do noteven belong in ths class at all) . Our short lived democracy of 1990 did not try to correct any of this. In fact by defining Nepal as a Hindu nation in the 1990 constitution only approved of such class system albeit subtly. Then there comes the question of official language...Nepali. Everything official is done ONLY in Nepali which again is the primary language of Khas speaking bahuns, well what about the rest of the ethnic people who do not speak this language on daily basis? Isn't this a hegemony of some sort in the name of democracy? So who ends up getting the advantage at the end? Whether you like it or not Birbhadra dai, although not your intention, you have been given privilege, your kind have been given privilege over the rest all so in the name of democracy. That is the real problem of Nepal. Unless, people are truely represented in the parties this time around, the likely hood of this not changing is pretty high.

Lots of people seem to try pulling their legs as the proverb of 'chor ko khutta kat'. It's not surprising as your list goes on with your game of blaming retarded, terrorists, traitor n' all these. Everyone is free to raise their voice. I don't care what is the real definition of royalist is. I'm even ready to be royalist if they give democracy n' don't supress people's rights n' can establish peace in the country, but not with the hypocrisy of saying 'mahabanis' n' doing just the opposite. Action speaks louder than words. I'm sorry if I personally hurt somebody when I used the word disgusting. Neither do I wanna play a blame game as so-called royalists do. If possible, try to use your brain n' open your eyes n' ears.

Haude ko bhai, there are several things in life which cannot be changed. for example khas language cannot be replaced by any other language. it is impossible. it is just like english cannot be replaced by any other as a international language. yes it is sad but that is how this world works, always the majority wins. to adress your issue of minorities not getting equal privileges we first need to get rid of the monarchy. this is a institution that believes bahuns and chettris are superior than other. as long as there is this monarchy in nepal we can never get anywhere as far as ethnic equality is concerned. imagine our king or queen being newar , gurung rai or madhesi? it is never going to happen. imagine our president being one of these ethnicities. it is possible. but again in a democracy leaders get chosen what the majority wants and unfortunately bahuns and chettris are majority. so they will always have upper hand whether we like it not. and also khas language cannot be replaced by any other language it is too late (hundreds of years late) however we can promote and preserve other languages so that they coexist comfortably

Birbhadra...that is the same bull-shit the parties give. Bahuns make up around 35% of the population, now why don't you tell me what percent of them control the parties or what percent of them controled the government in post 1990 era. The key lies in understanding how they were able to have more than 90% control in a so called democratic framework. Unfortunately, you choose not to understand that. There is no need to replace khas language, but there is need to conduct official government related work in other languages where they are dominant as well. Certainly, I must not have noticed it if it did happen. And, by the way...work on your understanding of democracy, looks like you need it!

Haude jee, you don't need democracy? About bahuns, it's true that they're not the majority in Nepal. About the languages, the responsibility also lies within the language speakers too. I'm a newar n' I speak newari. But there're many newari frens who are not teaching their kids newari n' no bahun people have told them to do that. So, if newari language get extinct, it's because of newari people than anyone else. My point is that blaming bahun community solely is not going to solve any problem; we can do so much on our own to develop our community. But we choose to promote hatred for other communities, and other religions instead of trying to understand our own faults and responsibilities.

I don't know if I should call you gwajyo or gwaje? Looks like you want the post 1990 era democarcy: i.e bahuns as your master. So if you are not a bahun, then what the hell are you fighting for? I am a bahun (a liberal one, like lot of them in Sajha) and I am saying minority rights need to be protected and here you are, a newar saying something else. Look, protecting minority rights is in the interest of everyone, including bahuns. Also, for your information, to develop your own community, the state needs to create an environment for it, or at least give a fair share. And going back to your language problem, have you wonder why your parents did not encourage you to learn newari? Perhaps, it is because the only official language is Nepali and therefore learning newari would be a pointless exercise? I am not trying to promote hatred, all I am saying is that everyone should be given a fair share. That's all. I think that is what democracy is all about, haina ra?

I agree with you haude. But I can speak newari very fluently. But I don't agree that we need incentive for learning our own language. Newari language was preserved even during Rana regime. Ofcoure, you're right that it's good to preserve and help different ethnic communities n' minorities. But it's not possible by promoting hatred against any single cast n' it can be only possible in a democratic environment. How can the protection of ethnic community's rights are possible when one can't even speak anything against injustice. How can you convince me that my rights or any other community's rights are going to be better protected when I can't even speak about any injustice ; when they don't even want to see me speaking in cells?

This time, I agree with bidwan : There're some jackals (political leaders) waiting to grab a pie as soon as the democracy comes.

This topic is indeed getting interesting....I m not a Bahun, but I take no offense to Bahuns controlling 90% of the government..recently or in the past....Bahuns never complain Newars controlling 70% of businesses (rest of course is Dhotis...or is it vise versa)....Either way, people do and excel in what they are good at...we cannot say there's inequity (Some sort of inequity is everywhere, including here in the USA) .....If you wanna refer to Bahuns controlling the govt, then...The King's govt must be the most diverse one...he had Golche Sarki as a minister once, and I think there are few minority Ministrers in the current govt....Its not who is in power/govt, its how they run it, and what do they do for the country and us, the people.....Netas have been CHOR since time unknown in Nepal's political arena, and its not going to change anytime soon...Unless and until LAW is upheld, and unless and until Netas/King abide by the Law/Constitution, a resolution in the favor of Janatas is not happening.....Currently, Netas are more powerful than the law...they make mockery of the constitution, and do as they wish.....have we not seen enough...from Giraja to Bam Dev....Prakash Man to Bal Bahadur Rai.....all have been CORRUPTS and have declared themselves above LAW in one form or other......Netas of all race and origin had their chances, and all of them let us down....Its time to wake up, and hold our Netas accountable for their acts....Be it Girija or the King himself.....We need LAW that's above all of them.....

Exactly, we need the system and law above everyoneelse. Netas are corrupted too; that's why we need the institution like CIAA and to strenthen it, and need independent legal system n' media. But what's current regime trying to do?

Actually, I don't think that present consitution hinders the entry of politicians from any caste. Besides reformation of consitution, we also need to reform the state of our mind.
