John, I just wonder how do you accumulate all of these literary inspirations!!! For Dalli Resham- well to be honest with you, and from my close-circuit observerance being a Nepali nomad in the States, I think, the color and the texture of skin of Nepali people are the most obvious way to differentiate your fellow country man (with some exceptions) in foreign land. I can smell the Nepali flavor from quite a distant- the look, the skin- there is this some coarse texture of our Nepali Daju Bhai and Didi Bahini. I am not trying to sound like derogatory, but that is the most first thing I notice on any Nepalese. Well, the rest, talking, dressing, attitude are the rest salient features, which to me is even more easy to distinguish them. Well, good luck with these few hints from "Humdrum"- perhaps it may help you, but not a boring advice, right??? HD

Thank you Humdrum, I guess I do not have your talent, I can easily tell the such person is an indian but for nepali I can not be sure. I wish I have your talent. Thank you so much!!

Dalli Resham, now you are emberassing me- in fact, I do not have a talent like you to distinguish Indian from Pakistani or Bangladeshi or Ceylonian. See, at least you can tell easily a person as an Indian. The question to you is, I think you are one of those few exceptions, as I indicated in my prior response. May be you do not have this typical Nepali look, and some of our fellowcountrymen including "Humdrum" is also illusioned by his hypothesis of Skin-Tone relativity theory. Well, girl, where in the world are you? Don't tell me ki you are in those red-neck areas... LOL Curious- HD

Humdrum in fact, You are right I am from one of those red -neck areas. Oklahoma. sorry if I embassased you but I did not mean it at all. Well, I guess you are right in somewhat I do not look like typical nepali, I can pass for spanish, mexicans or even some of my friends and people at my work think I am from Iran, turkey or one of those country. But I am 100 % nepali though. Palpai, I think they have student asso. but it is way too far from where I live.

dear all, thanks for reading....I am always dubious about my stories getting attention. There is so much going on between fellow politicians that little stories like mine go unobserved. nk..I had written this story in a small span of time....apologies for the omission of references, hard to expatiate when you are always running out of time. hurray....I have a degree in computer tech....just awaiting right time. ke garney harkey....pheri aai pugnu paryo sabailai bore garna. dalli, I totally agree with humdrum. Our presence simply stands out amongst other nepalese that looks make no difference. dalli, I believe there are more nepalese in oklahoma than alabama mississippi and new orleans.....so you are better off than me girl, just go to the city and few other places like norman and edmond. thanks jira. thanks quzmoon and jira.

John Thank you for the suggestion and I do live in OKC which is of course the biggest city of OK. Well, I am sure if I go to stillwater, where about 70 nepalese students are studying I will get some friends but that is little far from here. Well, I enjoyed your story. Thnak you!

hmmm I had entered the thread withfull intention of cursing the hell outta the person who started it. So I would have to agree that the title did seem discriminating. But its a wonderful story...So sad... I would say your looks dont define who you are. Just be proud of what you have. They must check you at all the airports too and look at you weird in many places... Although I have to ask, do they?

Well looks to me like you are academically smart, but your brother is street smart, you know school of hard knocks and all that stuff. Furthermore, he seems more extroverted. I'm not trying to bash you or anything, but you two have different personality. "Still wonder why she chose to marry me, maybe she thought I was still evolving to arjun rampal. " Well, guess she thought that you would be a better choice because of your personality. The reasoning is that she thought you would provide more security to her. As some people would say, nerds have all the women. Some grain of truth to it. Furthermore, looks to me like you're insecure about your looks. On one extreme you have Nepalis who look Chinese/Tibetan, and on the other extreme you have those who look Indian. Most Nepalis fall somewhere in between because we are mixed up. I too look North Indian. But I dunno what your ethnicity is. All I know is that most bahuns I know look Indianish. There are a few who look mixed up. I in fact met one who looked Japanese. I'm like wtf?? And these people criticize my looks. I have convinced all people around me that bahuns who don't look Indian are impure and probably got magar/gurung blood coursing through their veins. Nothing wrong with it, but this seems to be the case. Heh.

wateva, I have already apologized for the title, I sure sounded derogatory. My apologies again, but it was written only in jest. Just tried to emulate most of the nepalese people who use this appelation for Indians. Blessed are you and many others in sajha who do not discriminate. Well, as far as airports are concerned, they think I am a middle eastern, and that worsens the matter more. thugged out, You are right, but I am an extrovert too. But the definition was more apt for bhai because of his charisma rather than my embarrassing middle class looks. Also, I am a brahmin, and looked typically north indian those days. But bhai was a brahmin too....wonder why he didn't look like one.

****I in fact met one who looked Japanese. I'm like wtf?? ***** thugged out Helllllllooooo..... Ting-Tong..... Hellllooooo.... Thugged out, please do not tell me now that you were not born in Nepal or raised in Nepal. Or have you forgetten your Great Pirthivi Narayan's "4 jaat ra 36 varna ko saajha fulbaari...." Have you not gone through the pages of Bhupi Sherchan, Heera Devi Waiba or to the melody of latest Nepali Bryan Adam, Sabin Rai??? Well, look is one of the most important features that people are fond of. And the synonymity associated with look and the success in the United States is so huge that has been baffling me for a while. The question now is, which kind of ethnical frame you choose to say beautiful or applealing. Anyway, with no exception, I would say- "ANYTHING BUT ORDINARY...!!!!" HD

thugged out, Humdrum has a point, being nepalese just does not mean being brahmin. We have a secular nation where people of different ethnicities reside, I respect all cultures and religion. United we stand!!

I know that John Galt. All I'm saying is that if somebody starts criticizing me, I don't see why I can't return the favor. I am a secularist, pluralist, multiculturalist--you name it. I'm a liberal. However, that does not mean that people have the right to insult me. I don't take kindly to insults and I'm pretty good at hurling them myself. Some people are just callous.

"Divided We Fall..." Well, John Galt, not I only had that point, my other point is, and bear with me: it is even more baffling me, especially this catagory of Chinese to Japanese Status since it is quite related to our own thugged out's point of view. I have been noticing, that Japenese looks are more acceptable than Chinese looks, not only have a label of developed Asian nation, but according to many, Japanese are all way good looking compare to Chinese, Koreans, or other South Asian countries. It amazed me when thugged out commented on Japanese looking Nepalese. It kinda pointed towards that direction. All it matters is, besides "nothing but ordinary", the beauty lies on the eyes of beholder.
