Dear colleagues in Ameriacas, Since King has imposed emergency and the protest is unlikely to happen even in future, we need to send signals to the King that we love democracy more than you. Therefore, I would like to ask your solidarity for DEMOCRACY IN NEPAL and protest against the King in the event of ANA Convention 2005 which is not that far down the road. Those of you, if you have anything already in mind in terms of getting organized for protest please let us know.

So much for Democracy Day ANA is in July...who know the situation of Nepal by then. Like Basnyat said, if the king start winning against the maoist maybe he will be popular again. And the people will forget about his crooked past.

I have gone through all the posting above. Most of the people are throughing venom against the ledear and theri past misdeed. But think otherside as well. The king who can't disciplined his own son for his behaviours, can he control this mess in the country?? Just my two cents.

I 100% agree.. there is no question about it. I would like to ask those Nepalese who live abroad - mostly who come from well off family, fortunate and also spoilt brats - young sons and daughters of civil servants and Marwadis and who support tyrant king's move and measures and who are showing up on sajha.com at this moment - the king's propanda pupets the following questions: What do you think if your freedom - the Fundamental Political Rights, the Human Rights to that allow one to live like a bonnafied citizen of a nation, the Right of Privacy all in all the freedom of speech as a human being is threatened on the gun point of a tyrant? Jackies, the propanda pupets, you think this is right and justified against the will of Nepalese people? HERE'S THE OPEN LETTER FROM NEPAL: This is an open letter send by a journalist in Nepal who is currently in hiding. It is the first piece of communication from the totally cut-off Nepal. His identity has been kept secret since it's a highly sensitive issue. Dear friends and well-wishers, I am using email after three days, currently under cover in Nepal. As all the telephone lines, Internet and other communication facilities have been cut off, we are experiencing the Stone Age in the 21st century. This has been a complete hell for journalists. We are not allowed to talk to anyone. Political leaders are either under house arrest or have been detained. There are Armymen patrolling the streets. Even if there is emergency situation in a house, there is no way of communicating with others. In the eyes of a foreign journalist, everything would seem calm and normal on the streets. But the weight of the undercurrent is unfathomable. Ours is one of the biggest media houses in Nepal. Since the king addressed the nation on Tuesday morning, dictatorial rule has been imposed on media as well. The Army officers scan all the contents before it goes to the printing or on air. I won't be able to check emails for the next several days or may be months. So don't reply. Our life is in threat and an eerie silence is lingering in every corner of Nepal. Speaking anything against the monarch or the rulers is directly inviting death, or being behind the bars, not less. I hope my friends outside Nepal help us in this hour of difficulty. Please circulate this email among your friends' circle, and please try to exert pressure on your government to bail my country out of the trouble and hardships we are going through. Thank you. HERE'S THE LINK: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow/1010698.cms I know some of us agree with the move of tyran king and some of us don't. Despite our differences we have to consider how we gonna evolve in Nepal under the permanent threat to our fundamental rights. I personally believe that without the rule of law under the Democratic political process in this modern time we humans do no enjoy our lives despite of prosperity and control. We have to think responsibly that we humans naturally are intellectually evolving animal. For any monarchy with its traditional values of its instituation to survive in this modern time its citizens need to be enjoying their lives being a most resourceful human resources- meaning educated, efficient and professional. Human resourses are the only resourse that can never undermine the human prosperity. Regimes that supress human resourses like Rana and Shah can not survive in this modern time with its moncarchy. Unless there is a modernization in the instituate as our beloved king Birendra and his grant father Tribhuban tried with their best.

It is amazing how much badmouthing "democracy" is getting in this thread. I would guess most of those doing the badmouthing are in America, and America is what it is because it is the world's oldest democracy. Many Nepalis have gone thorugh hell and high water to come to America. What for? If you so love autocracy, now might be your chance: go to Nepal! I would be the first to criticize the ineptitude of the leaders during the 1990s. And to decry the corrutpion. But just look at two things: (1) The royal budget got doubled after Deuba was sacked. Is that not brahmaloot? Is that not corrution? Misuse of taxpayers' money? Which Congress leader was corrupt at such a large scale? (2) Nepal saw more development work during the 10 years of multi party democracy than during the 30 years of Panchayat. It worked, damnit! People raise two issues when they try to discredit the democratic experiment in Nepal. (1) The cacophony of democracy. Leaders supposedly fighting amongst themselves. Response: Democracy, by definition, is a cacophony. It is no symphony. It is through such dialectics that progress is made. Raging debates are a good thing. (2) Leaders getting accused of being power-hungry. Of wanting to become Prime Minister. Response: Heck, that is a good thing! It is a good thing Bill Gates wants to be rich. We all end up with Windows. It is a good thing Bill Clinton works over a lifetime to become president. Similary it is a good thing if Girija and Deuba and MaKuNe compete to become Prime Minister. The country benefits from the competition. King G's speech. It reads as follows: (1) My ancestor Prithvi created Nepal so this country is my family property. (2) But this is the 21st century so I guess I will allow some democracy. Times have changed. (3) Democracy is fine, but we could not get a single good leader duing the 1990s. Good system, bad players. (4) I sacked Deuba twice, giving him less than a year each time to hold elecitons. He is inept. I will give myself three years to do the same. (5) Yo Prachande le nihu nai khojya ho ta? La ta au aba direct guff garam. When was the last time a country, any country on the planet got similary blacked out? No phone, no internet, no nothing. This is primitive. The Constituent Assembly idea is the only meeting point for the three forces in the country. On that more here: - http://www.sajha.com/sajha/html/OpenThread.cfm?forum=2&ThreadID=18493 (2) Agree to the Constituent Assembly talk, but only if the Maoists disarm. To that the Maoists will say, no, instead we want to merge into the Nepali Army. Deuba says, fine, but all of your cadres will have to apply individually. Like new recruits. And all those who pass the "entrance" requirements will be taken in at the level of their qualification, but not en masse, not in "Maoist battalions." (3) Then hold elections. The new elected body drafts a new constitution that is put to a referendum. If the referendum accepts the constitution, the elected body stays on as parliament. Or new elections are held. Two elections will be cheaper than the ongoing civil war and paralysis. (4) There is a strong possibility the monarchy might come back. The people might decide to keep it. Most important the Maoists will be disarmed. The Maoists are the weaker party. But it would be a bad idea to try to rub their nose in the dust. Better to help them save face. True, they are theoretically Maoists. 70 years back they would have been Stalinists. But then 20 years back the UML were communists. 30 years back Koirala hijacked a plane. 70 years back the Shahas did what the Ranas asked them to do. The Maoists are a protest movement. They are not communists in the old fashioned way. Most of their grievances have been Janajati grievances. That is more ethnic than industrial labor stuff.

How can this be tolerated! This is outrageous beyond outrageous. - http://www.hindustantimes.com/news/7598_1227420,00050002.htm "........Held at bay on the ground, the RNA responded with choppers, firing at the protesters from the air. About 15 students are said to have taken bullets......The soldiers returned to their barracks at about 6 pm, but at around 2 am there was another raid. This time, the RNA entered the hostel and picked up between 200 and 250 students. Those who were injured in the chopper fire earlier in the day were not taken to hospital, said sources, they were shifted to the barracks instead........."People say that they have heard screams", said a source....." This is hideous!

Paramendra..."...America is what it is because it is the world's oldest democracy.." NOT....it's Greece, old chap! The word itself comes from Greek: from Greek dEmokratia, from dEmos + kratia. a : government by the people; especially : rule of the majority America's Electoral College does not qualify as "majority rule", otherwise Gore would have been the President in 2000.

Paramendra, I have some suggestions that conflicts with your opinion--- Yes the budget of Nepal certainly have increased, I am not saying that Gyanae is the best at what he does but the politicians did pass the bill of raising the royal palace?s expenses to corods? They were happy to give some of Gyanae?s relative the huge amount of money to repair her legs.. If the politicians were that worried about the country why in the hell didn?t they stop it.. The fact is they all love suck Gyanae?s ------. I hope you heard the latest budget bhasan raising VAT? Are the NETAS shitting public.. Their policies conflict both with classical as well as Keynesian economic theory. The country is going down the hole and they still want to push the country into more deep shit? I am not shitting tara we really have to be thankful to India?s economy that is keeping us intact around the world with these ratio the dollar would equal to like 100s of Nepalese currency.. A country that has no monetary policy try to dictate the country with a shitty fiscal policy what a BS. I mean come on be practical. You know take your part and just shut up.. Sun ko anda dinae kuhukra ko anda ko matrai use garnu parcha.. Pet ma katti dherai anda cha bhanaera kuhukura lai nai chirnu hudaina? If my so called friends are so worried about our beloved country then lets look at the fact these politicians are rapping your beloved country NEPAL every day and even will not back off until their last breathe. But does it really matter to us NOPE it does not because that is democracy? The US took 400 yrs to be where it is right now and we are fortunate enough to see these and want to use these philosophies in Nepal who has not even had a chance to understand what democracy really means.. Trust me I have been in those several boothe captures in Nepal. I have heard our beloved Netas saying Malie jitau yo election mero party ko karya karta lai eke k wata brand new escort bike dinchu and trust me I rode that bike until I came to the US? Nepal ko recent 14 yrs ma 15 wata naya PM haru chan is it worth it? Our families are fortunate enough back home that they can live for months even if there is no business in Nepal during Nepal bandh and stuff but what about those ppl that live on daily expenses.. Aren?t we feeding them slow poison??? Development in 10 yrs? That is not because the politicians decided to do something that is because ppl had new technology and trust me if it was still panchyat we would have been much farther in economy? In fact in the past 10 yrs we have been contributed with so much money from around the world that if well invested we would be one of the hottest rising economy in the world. Remember when India stopped fuel and sugar to Nepal Marichman went to china and Germany and provided those stuff.. After panchyat was done countries around the world offered to use Nepal?s hydro electric power but what we do we said we would do it on our own and ate all the money? Forgot Mahakali sandhi whenever you get a chance to go to that bridge take a look Nepal ko side ma tukucha cha bhanae India ko side ma its like a sea? Nepal ko hydro electric power lae Asia lai pugne electricity pugcha tara Nepal ma load shedding huncha? ask Japan and see how much it has invested in Nepals roads and damn you?ll hear the figure that you have never heard before? Ask those Netas where did our new airplane go? Ok forget about that ask them what happened to the other planes during 1999, 2002?? DO you know that one election pushes an under developed country atleast 2-4 yrs back economically.. But we don?t care do these politicians no they want election they want to see whose party is the most strongest? Stop this BS and start doing something for the country? Raging debates and hungry for power are good when it is invested for a good cause? Not just to sit in the chair and ripping off the people?. You talk about the tax payers money being misutilized Can you tell me how many ppl really have paid taxes in Nepal? You know the Matris you don?t even have to pay taxes? The whole country is corrupt from top to bottom.. So what if the King no matter how unpopular he is decides to do something about it?. We have given these Netas all the time to show their worth lets give the king the opportunities to prove what he says? Trust me if he fails no one needs to say anything he himself will flea the country coz he is taking the biggest gamble ever taken? That is why I say lets give him a chance and see what he is upto? We saw what the Netas said but they never succeeded .. We heard about the Mawabadi too now they don?t want to have the talks.. So pretty much they were just BSing too. So lets see what Gyanae has to offer? May be it will turn out to be good if not he is done and gone?.

Parmendra, what development you are talking about? Do you ever realize how the country has been transformed into the killing fields? I am not talking about Maoist or Army or King. The culprits are those chappal chaap neetas. And believe me I have served in the government office and been close to some of those neetas, non of them are worth any respect . Probably you might be knowing how these neetas when they become a minister manipulate the power. A senior officer cannot take any disciplinary action because some useless jerk coming to office belongs to some party. Now, this does not mean KG would be fair, but to handle these neetas need some one like KG. I used to go alone or sometimes with a team in remote areas of Nepal to do survey for micro hydro power development, villagers were working hard day and night for development of their villages they were all Nepalese but after so called democracy triggered by India, Nepalese and Nepal have now became a nightmare. Me as a purely a technical person not being interested in politics, want to see the peaceful Nepal where I can work and serve someday. And I believe someday I can get back to lighten up those remote villages of Nepal. I miss those dohare geet and the happy faces of village kids going to school up in the hill.

Last time, Dr. Alok Bohara initiated such petition and it did not go anywhere except just petition in the name of petition. ANA even failed to respond or update its current status. We Nepalis are very emotional and very fast to initiate projects, but never accomplish them. We keep on shifting them before one completes, the reason is that we are not taught to take and risk responsibility and think its Okay to keep responsibilities or projects shifting without accomplishing that was set to achieve earlier. It has become our national character, it starts right from King to Peon level. Kul Chandra Gautam, who is in UN, is surely a great person to back the aforesaid petition, but when it comes to Nepal related issues, even it looks to me that he took issues very lightly and aborted his interest on that petition. Dr. Alok B. is surely a great professor at NMU, he did not do anything better after peoples trusted them and signed. Even this petition that was announced via this thread is so bad that who drafted it is not written there. Its nothing more than a Sajha.com thread. Should you sign it? It up to you how much you love to sign and practice signing, I don't see its worth ness, otherwise the initiator of petition should have signed/identified and shown his/her or their strenght to make it use and worth to be signed.
