It means the former, i.e. the king assumes control of the executive branch of the government. as you mentioned, it is already kind of like that. i guess what the pollster is trying is ask is whether it would be ok to revert to a panchayat style of government.

thank you for clarifying that for me. have you seen how many people voted for this?! i'm very surprised. although, i guess most of the people who go online and vote for things like that are well-educated and financially well-off. so perhaps they would support an absolute monarchy.

yes, compared to most nepalis, i am well-educated and well-off financially. i'm an amrikan! and i never said multi-party democracy is the way to go for nepal either. but i strongly feel that the corrupt government, be it the king or the political parties, is the main cause of why nepal has not progressed beyond its current state. and i feel the maoists are the main cause for sending nepal's development back decades through their actions. i am not against a monarchy necessarily. but i AM against one that looks out only for itself and its aphno manchhes while the country is burning, the children are dying, and the people are screaming out. nepal is treading its way down a very scary and dangerous path. one that may lead to 1990s afghanistan or late 1970s cambodia. nepal is full of villages without men, running away from the maoists, seeking refuge from the army, or leaving the country for any opportunity that might bring their families hope. how insane and sad is it that nepalis are going to the middle east for work because it's safer there?! i honestly don't know what the best solution for nepal and the nepali people is. but i KNOW it is not the continuation of this conflict and i KNOW it is not to provide the current king with all the power. during his almost-four years in power, what good has he done for his country?!

I am no sociologist, but I think the problems that we see in Nepal are deeply influenced by two things 1) culture 2) lack of leadership. Most people (esp those in the public sector) do not take their responsibilities seriously. Whether it is the govermnet khardar or the career politician, none has a sense of responsibility towards their job. Look at other places in the world; for example, in the US you will find a janitor doing his duties with full commitment. Politicians here are deeply concerned about the responsibities. People take pride in doing their jobs well. I have not seen many people in Nepal show this kind of responsibility. This lack of responsibility and respect for their dutiies (mosty on the part of the politicians) is partly to blame for Nepal's current situation. Our society does not seem to value honesty and hard work. For example, young children are often told stories that praise the cookoo who tricks the crow by making it tend for its eggs. The clever guy who steals from the hardworking but dim-witted guy is considered the role model. With this kind thinking, children do not grow up aspiring to work hard and make a decent living. Which explains why we have quite a few smugglers who rape the country by selling our national treasures abroad. Which leads me to the second problem - lack of leadership. There is clearly no leader or role model in whose footsteps young folks should strive to follow. Look at the US. There are tons of scientists, businesspeople and entertainers that I respect and are worth emulating. There is no need to venture far. Just look at India. Young kids grow up wanting to become start the next Tata or Infosys. We need strong and trustworthy leaders not only to unite the country and get us out of this mess, but also to serve as role models for the future generation. I was a little kid when the multiparty system was established in Nepal. At that time, I did not know enough to really have an opinion on politics. However, in the last 15 yrs, things have gone from bad to worse. Every politician that has emerged has been weak and selfish. As far as the solution to the current problem, I also know that continuing the conflict is not the answer. A diplomatic solution is the only way out of this mess. But for that to happen, people must for once give up their own selfish desires and for once do the right thing. Perhaps this is just wishful thinking. God help us all.

We need the freight train to arrive from China and the final destination of that train should be multiple indian cities-that is what china is planning as well. We need that high speed train..and we'll flourish over night---when traders from 1 billion population on each side start paying all kinds of tolls for having the privilege to trade through our roads and bridges that they themselves will build for us..Nepal can transform and become 'land' singapore within a decade or 2....hope for the best
