The dual citizenship law is still in limbo in Nepal even as the present gov has been lacklustre in any significant progress in granting Nepalis dual citizenship.

They are still stuck in middle age mentality of not allowing dual citizenship for citizens born in Nepal who took citizenship of another country for job, old age security or other reasons.

I personally believe that it would benefit both Nepal and Nepalis who have taken citizenship of another country because it is not only the visa fee that Nepali government should care for which is paltry amount but the potential of their contribution specially now when the foreign remittance has drastically decreased.

If Nepalis from overseas are given dual citizenship then there would be more incentive for them to contribute to the development of Nepal.

True, Biruwa sir. The old mentality is blocking this campaign. It is beneficial for Nepal if they give dual citizenship.

I am not familiar but I thought they were doing these to protect local people. If dual citizenship is authorized then most will invest in land and property as safe heaven to avoid taxes in their adopted country driving land and housing prices. This does not stimulate economy.
If people are holding out from investing because of citizenship issue, most likely they are thinking od selling investment at a profit later and bring it back to adopted country. I do not see any benefit to Nepal, however I thought it was in its best interest to give out NRN card or similar protection to people giving up Nepali citizenship. I am in similar boat as well, and would personally benefit me if Nepali citizenship was approved but I am not sure if its in the interest of Nepal.

Goddman, ppl can already get nrn cards and sell their property without getting dual citizenship. So not having dual citizenship doesnot stop that. On the contrary, if dual citizenship is granted then one can save their property cuz they can see the future as a citizen in Nepal. Netas are sacred that progressive ppl with money and skills gonna come back to Nepal causing them problems or competition in politics for them.

I would like to hear the benefit of getting NRN.

Why should we worry about it ? Those Millions of Indian people who got Nepali citizens after 1990 , more than 1/2 may have dual citizenship.
