I just found out that today is the Republic Day. Nepal’s PM has asked all citizens to celebrate for three days by lighting lamps at night. They really must love this Republic Day because they got so much out of the change in Nepal. I hardly remember anything. I remember I returned to Nepal 12 years ago after the political war ended. It has been 12 years too, but lighting lamps at night is not what I can even think of. It is more a cause to mourn the demise of my beloved Mother Nepal.

What has been the achievement of the Republic Nepal? I see only grave loss of Nepal’s true historical identity because of collusion between the traitor politicians and the conniving Indian government. Let us see the tree noted points of this Republic.

One, Nepal became a secular country. Why? Only to please the Norwegian and European interests? Secularism is needed, if at all, in only those places where there are discrimination against practitioners of other religious practices or there are religious conflicts in society. Nepal as a Vedic land has practiced tolerance and embracing of all faiths as leading to the same ultimate destination of each soul. It even funded the Muslims community to travel to Mecca for their religious pilgrimage.

A religion is a product of the land and community following its history and practices. Hence South Asia has adopted Vedic practices as a way of life and embraced a philosophy that sees all the humanity as a single family, and even respects other living beings, be they animals or plants. That is a very high philosophy of living and looking at the world. Secularism is a product of people who have failed to understand the unity of life, and the ultimate goal of human birth. These are the product of people whose thinking relies on materialistic goals and physical comfort that serves self more than the community. Thus transplanting such ideas in a culture developed in a different way of life is not only a mistake but a crime.

Two, Nepal got rid of monarchy, a historical institution that not only united Nepal to save it from colonial designs but also disentangled it from clutches of India ruled by British stooges the Gandhi family of Congress party. King Mahendra faced much hardship and threats from the then Indian government that basically treated Nepal as an unofficial state of India. It was due to the diplomatic fiat of Mahendra that Nepal established a separate identity in the world. So, the monarchy has played such an important role that we need to be grateful for our ability to live as the people who have never been colonized, and a country that does not have to celebrate Independence Day. A man or a community or a nation that does not observe gratitude to its creator is not worthy of anything further.

Lastly, Nepal has now seven federal states and more than 700 legislators sitting in various levels of parliament without any concept of how a parliament works or its purpose. The legislature is basically for making the law of the land and discusses pertinent issues of the day facing the nation. However, the central legislators have something called “Sansad Kosh.” This is the money each member of the parliament received in his fund to help develop his or her constituency. This is absolutely absurd. A legislator’s duty is to help make laws that help people run their business and function the country smoothly. Their love for perks and comfort has resulted in expensive vehicles being purchased by the government, money that is a total waste of people’s taxes.

So no matter how you look at it, there is no reason to celebrate and hold lighting activities at night. On the contrary, we should all mourn and pledge to ourselves that such grave errors are never repeated in Nepal.

This constitution is not what people wanted. Not a single sentence of the constitution was discussed in the parliament and not a single suggestion collected from the people was incorporated into the constitution. This was a sponsored document from abroad that this corrupt political mafia imposed on Nepali people and caused the greatest harm in the past 70 years.

Instead of light, I will be working in darkness, just as my nation is now trudging along in the darkness.
