10 thousand ho. but declaration garera janu hola natra jafat huncha...if u dnt declare it in nepal airport they will seize it...income support garne bank statement lanu hola, they will look for it...dnt take more than 1 laptop, 1 mobile natra they will immediately seize it... when u take dollats take all 100 bills nepal ma ramro rate aucha...
don't take it lightly .. one to one check garcha.. paile ko jasto hoina...( hope u have read some latest news ) .... paile maile 30 thousand dollar samma lageko chu .. no one used to check...now past 2 weeks things changed drastically.. be careful while taking electronic devices..if u have more than one they will seize it immediately
Looks like Kale Dai has answer to my question in another thread..... do they check everything in suitcase.........such as new clothes/shoes etc with tags/ food items.
Is amount declaration is any amount even it is like 2-3K?
euta_ nepali : this is like a random check .. but too often n too frequent .. also depends upon which route ur using to check in airport...if u r coming through china/ turkey/ route they go more into ur hand carry n luggage.. koz these are the people who come from usa/ japan/australia...they know these people have more money ( without declaration ), expensive gifts ( phones, liquors ) etc .. when caught the process is so tedious n expensive that u eventually give up those items
if u come from gulf route ( our fellow gulf workers route) , they treat u even worse, rude ( most of the gold smogling takes place from this route ).. taking 2 3k dollars is not a big deal u dnt even need any proof (provided u have us visa/ us passport )..if ur on b1 category n hold more than 3 thousand dont do it ...i am supposed to take back 20 K $ (cash) but not been able to...
the reason behind doing this is nepal is under severe financial crisis n nepal government, finance minister ( yubaraj khatiwoda ) trying his best to seal revenue leakage

personal phone is exempted, u can take one more new phone but things get tricky here, u have to be able to identify which phone is new n which is ur personal, what that means is u cannot take 2 phone saying 2 phone are ur personal phone, 1 has to be brand new not used with receipt while other has to be used one... what people generally do is they take 2 new phones without cover receipt claiming both phone are used phones..in this case if come across random vigorous check u have to pay double tax of 2 phones which is nearly equal to the cost of ur phone n process in time consuming.. same is the case with laptops n cameras n most importantly liquors...the reason they go for strict check is that the one who finds u cheating revenue is rewarded upto 15% commission after lilami of those goods nhelps them in promotion.. so carry bills
Where is actual law which says you have to declare every dollor you bring to Nepal? Do they even check everyone’s pocket for $ ? I am sure there should be some regulations which says how much cash one can bring. As far I know they don’t ask or give any paperwork to declare cash by default. Also there might be different rules for foreign passport holder , I don’t think they say u can only bring 100$ to tourists.

So If there is a Vigorous check and they find one new phone apart from my personal phone, that means I have to pay tax on it right? Do you happen to know how much percent tax I have to pay if they make me pay the tax on one new phone?
Also, to understand this rule in layman's term would be, one person one phone policy no extra phone does not matter if it is new or old phone. If one has extra phone(more than one phone) and if there is a check that person pay's the tax on that extra phone. Did I understand that correctly?
u dnt need to declare every $$ its only 10000 n up, its international rule that most country follow even usa, nepal jada plane bata niklera terminal building chirna sath bord ma thulo thulo letter ley lekheko cha to declare if u have more than 10000$ .. i never said u can take only 100$ as tourist what i said was take 100 ko bills as its highly desirable by nepali gold smugglers n u get best rate
no, i think i was not able to make u understand, u can take 2 phones but one has to be new n other used one .. so everyone has their used phone in pocket so u can take one more..u cannot take 2 new phones even if u dnt carry ur personal phone.. the custom is i think 37% ( not sure exactly) but if ur caught u get a ticket of same amount so its 37*2
