Dangerous bills likely to pass

Hello Sajha brothers/sisters,

Two dangerous bills are likely to be passed on congress next week. The bills are HR392 and S281. These bills remove country cap quotas for emloyement based green cards. What this does is that it reduces the backlog for larger countries such as India. However for smaller countries like Nepal, our wait time for green card increases by 5-7 years. Same thing will happen for family-based petition.

Lobbyists are trying to add these bills on the DHS funding bill next week and they have made significant progress already. We need to act now for the future of Nepalese communities. This affects everyone. Even those who have already filed I-485 will be affected because their priority date will retrogress to that of India. Please call your congressmen/senators and let them know. Even one call makes an enormous difference. Tell them how this bill hampers diversity, lets one country monopolize GC process and how you oppose it.

Call Chuck Grassley, Patrick Joseph Leahy, Chuck Schumer, Feinstein and let them know you oppose the bill. It's super easy to call them. Just google "Chuck Grassley phone number", their number should pop up.

Please do not think your call wont matter. It does. Even one call makes an enormous difference because right now no one knows about this bill and this bill is moving forward unopposed. Every voice counts!

Let me know if you have any other questions!

This is America, and this bill won't affect any US citizen.

If you want to make Nepalese Community great, then you should go back to Nepal and make Nepal great.

kns,
What are the chances these bills would be passed?
How opposing this bill would matter?

Hello @deepocean,

Right now I would say 40% chance of passing. The only reason this bill has this high chances of passing is because nobody knows about this bill and lobbyists are trying to take advantage of this fact.

If we share as much as we can, we can stop this change soon. Even one phone call/email makes an enormous difference. Its like voting, one vote does not matter much but if everyone votes big changes are possible.

If nothing else, please share this article on your fb page:

use hashtags: #noHr392, #noS281

Best wishes!

Didn't know that, so the people like me who just applied 485 will also be affected I guess ?

. I see the HR392 has cosponsors 392 which I guess is the majority. so it gets through the House and passes through the senate( which I guess it would at the current situation).

Looks a very serious threat to every Nepali students either of OPT or H1B or students. please expert give an insight to this situation. Is the threat real ?

Country_boy,

Yes, anyone whose i-485 is not already approved will be affected because dates retrogress.

Cosponsors do not mean anything. Politicians cosponsor and do not vote all time. Cosponsor does not mean vote. It actually means nothing but this bill can pass if we dont do anything.

We can stop this easily if we use social media correctly. Please share about this on social media facebook, twitter etc. Call Chuck Grassley, Patrick Joseph Leahy, Chuck Schumer, Feinstein and let them know you oppose the bill because it hampers diversity, and this bill has not undergone enough public examination. It's super easy to call them. Just google "Chuck Grassley phone number", their number should pop up. They are very friendly and nice to talk to so please do not worry.

If all of us does this, we can stop it.

I agree if passed this bill will retrogress GC waiting time by at least 5 years for countries other than India and China. More than 80 percent of GC is allocated to India as per this bill. Call your congressman and make them aware about how it will impact rest of the world. Use  #nohr392 in Twitter. Spread as much information as you can about the harm this bill can create.

Does anybody has a link to sign petition against this bill?

This bill is the most unfair bill introduced and creating buzz so organizations like AHA & NIAC are already opposing it as it will give more power to India and china resulting in small nations like Nepal, EU countries being out crowded by these two big nations. India will monopolize this system and other nation will have to wait 5-7 years to get green card or will never get one if passed. Small countries are already coming together & protesting it, let's do our part too to benefit Nepalese talent in global level.
As @Kind_nepali_soul mentioned, you can share with as many people as you can, call congress and express your concern or even email them. There is already a petition going on created by small nation. Please sign it with your concerns in the comment section and let everyone around you know so petition goals can be reached.
Immigration reform is definitely needed to be fair to everyone but equality does not mean justice. This bill tries to be equal but is a massive injustice to rest of the world and will favor only Indians. Indians are pushing this law for their selfishness.
Please sign!!!! Below Here is the link to petition.

if passed, this bill will increase the per-country numerical limitation for family-based immigrants from 7% to 15% of the total number of family-sponsored visas. so how will it affect family based?

@khaikhok : Indians/Chinese will be the ones who will take the most advantage of chain immigration from this bill. At least per country cap was keeping a check on them until now and don't you think when all these huge backlogged applicants get GC they will bring their family on FB-GC and w/o no country cap limitation, Indian-GC applicants volume will forever dominate both EB and FB based GC. The Current Indian backlog will just shift to rest of the world in both FB and EB category. 15% increase Family based GC will not be easily available to anyone w/o massive backlog.

I already sent emails to my representatives (both Repub and Dems) on how and why I oppose this bill. Since, Indians are actively making heavy calls reading provided skript line to senates to push this law ASAP. They are very active in social media alerting their Indian H1b Communities to take actions  . Good things, many Americans are opposing this bill too as they think US will become India 2. Bad things they are playing emotional card to gather sympathy. I think, we should request our (if any) popular Nepalese Association to write an open letter like AHA and NIAC on how this will severely impact small nation like ours. If anybody has connections with such big Nepalese groups/association, please tell them to advocate our underrepresented Nepalese groups.
