[Image is representational - not actual]

Recently (August 2018) a Nepali student has been deported from the US immigration at the Abu Dhabi airport while the individual was on their way to the US after visiting Nepal.

The identity of the student is withheld for privacy but there are certain lessons to be learnt that can prove helpful for all Nepali students travelling to Nepal.

The deported individual was questioned by US immigration at the Abu Dhabi Airport regarding how they would pay for their college and was asked to log on into their bank account. The officials looked at all of their historical transactions and determined that they would search through personal laptop as well. After almost 8 hours of searching through the individual's personal stuff, the immigration officials were able to find some pictures of the individual in work place that was not in legal records, in other words, most likely getting paid in cash.

The individual was slapped with a 10 year ban on entering the US.

From this episode, any students travelling back from Nepal should bear in mind that immigration officials can ask to see your bank account history as well as possibly your social media login as well to determine your status in the United States.

It will be helpful to have your bank account transactions reflect your legal status as in deposits coming in from Nepal for education.

Disclaimer: This post is not to be construed as advice to break any immigration laws but as dissemination of information for immigrants travelling out of the US.

It was removed yesterday due to privacy concerns as real name and real image was used.

This has been posted again as it could be useful for students travelling.

Guys this is not fake. I know the person it happened to. I think the OP put different picture as sample photo to protect the identity of the guy. Just learn from the story. Tell your brother and sister about it so they are prepared when they travel because it could happen to them.
