Driver's License Renewal While TPS Pending
Hello Guys,
How did you guys renew your license when you had your TPS registration pending in the prior years. I printed the automatic extension/validity of TPS for 6months information from the USCIS website, but they wouldn't accept that either. Hence, it was only after I got my EAD and TPS approval notice that I could go back and apply to renew my Driver's license - that was a couple weeks of being without the DL.
The registration period has not been opened by USCIS as of yet, and I'm pretty sure we will be getting our new docs a couple weeks/months after the current expiration. Any suggestions as to what we can use to renew our current DL?

I tried that last time in OKlahoma but they told me that they will need a physical card and won't comply with just the federal register.
I tried twice but they wouldn't budge and showed me the list of acceptable documents to renew the DL and on that list there was no federal register notice eachtime.
But different states, even different locations within the states might have a different procedure whether to accept just the notice or not.
You can show receipt of notice of application and federal register notice. That should work.

Same thing happened to me also. I took the Federal Register Notice but they said that is not one of the acceptable. Have you happen to renew your Driver License yet? If yes then which DMV in Oklahoma did you go?
Ivan, I renewed my license form Albany, NewYork as I live there.
Documents I took.
1. Federal Notice
2. A printed copy of Nepal USCIS page showing TPS automatic extension information
3. TPS re-registration, notice of action, I-797 copy
4. New TPS EAD, the notice of action, I-797 copy
5. Old license
I talked to the supervisor, and they issued the license for 6 months up to December 23.

The DMV did not accept federal registry or I797C. The employee said that this will depend upon the DHS system that they have. The employee entered TPS details and it only provided till August, which I believe is the grace period of 60 days provided after end of the EAD. Hopefully EAD will come by that time. The argument against using the I797C was that it clearly has "Does not provide immigration benefit" on top.

Any one got their license renewed in VA?
I got mine renewed in rural VA (SW Virginia). The DMV scanned all of my paperwork : TPS received notice, SSN, expired EAD, etc and sent it to DHS and told me to wait 35-40 minutes for a response from DHS. It got approved and they gave me a DL for 6 months. Just explain them your situation and have the federal registrar notice ready on your phone from USCIS website. Hope that helps!
I have applied for tps extension and EAD in couple of days after the last re registration period. Mero online ma check garda approve bhanera ayi sakeko cha. So timiharu le pani probably re registration period start bhako ek due din mai re apply gareko bhaye chrck the status once. EAD or approval on the way huna sakcha.
Its YMMV, I've tried in Ohio a few times in different counties (Hamilton & Butler), they just show the list of acceptable documents which does not have "Federal Register" or "I797C" list as one.
The main reason why they do not accept I797C is that the document itself says "This document does not provide immigration benefit......" or something like that.
Some states do provide driving privileges to immigrants regardless of immigration status - OH is not one of those.
Anybody renewed their drivers license in CA? I got my temporary license but haven't received it even after 3 weeks. I called them today and they mentioned they are trying to contact DHS to confirm and it might take 3-6 months? I am in limbo. Have anyone been in similar situations?
call legal presence department of DMV and tell them the situation. I was in same situation. I called them 3 times and everytime they say DHS is confirming my application. They approved in around 33 days. Mine was CA real DL, the new one. probably U will get it in next 2 weeks. I was in TPS EAD.

Last year DFW area ma easily licence renew gareko theye maile only with federal notice. Aaile ta gardaina re ni ta k ho. Maile garlend ko mega center ma gareko theye. mero euta sathi ft worth gayeko rahechha DHS ma update nai vayeko chaina vanera renew nai garena chha. anybody in same situation? kata ko le garcha jankari pau hai.
same situation. license expires this thursday. TPS has no activity whatsoever.
@Gwach. Sorry didn't see your message earlier. I believe my ancestors were from Mulpaani, in Bhaktapur not from Okhaldhunga. My parents migrated to Biratnagar.
***Sharing my experience from NC.***
Went to DMV a couple of weeks ago for DL renewal with Federal Register notice but was denied by the supervisor saying I needed the TPS approval and EAD.
I then inquired about it on NCDOT.gov (contact us) and got the following response.
"
According to the Federal Register guidelines, yes, you are entitled to an extension. You will not need anything other than your expired DL and EAD card. If you get resistance while at the DLO, please call us and give them the name of the Examiner and your office location, and we will call that office and assist with your issuance."
I printed the response and went to DMV again. They were hesitant at first but when I showed the above response, they agreed and renewed by DL until Dec. My DL had already expired when I went for the second time.
Hope this helps for anyone in the same situation.
Update: My TPS and EAD got approved today :)
