Need suggestion from friends and wanted to ask how they managed when their parent travelled alone for the first time and if they did not speak English and were a bit frail.

Our aging mom will be travelling back to Kathmandu, all by herself, from O'Hare to Kathmandu via Qatar Airways. She came with a travelling cousin so it was comfortable.

Also, wanted to check if anyone here planning to travel back to Nepal on 31st May at 18:50 from Chicago O'Hare via Qatar Flight No. QR 726.
I tried to search for a community portal where the travelling companion information were shared; was it a face book community where I could check?

i don't think anyone has been lost in the air..for not being able to understand english...plus she already came here and has experience travelling...she will find someone willing to help her...people feel good to help elderly people in public....that's my say

Travellilng back to ktm is not hard... coming from ktm is little difficult because they have to talk to the officer at the poe. Just ask for wheel chair for your mom and they will take her from point a to point b. if she is going from abu dabhi, qatar, delhi etc.. she will meet lots of Nepalis..

Make her a set of cards either with pictures or Nepalese words, if she can read to communicate with the attendants. Communication on the place while travelling to gulf should help. If she has a smart phone, check internet connectivity options, stay online and text with her in case she needs sth.

I think it might be easier if you can manage Wheel-Chair assistance for her through the Qatar Airways by telling them she is not able to walk for longer distance. This will help her to pass the security gate with no trouble and also if she would have a transit in between, they will take her to different terminals or gates.
Hope this helps.

Not knowing English is not a problem and mostly they are very understandable and follow protocol but failure to inform them of not knowing English is a problem.
Just print a letter saying she doesn't speak/write/read/understand English and only speak Nepalese. Also mention your phone number, where she is going, when she will be returning and purpose of visit etc. Just ask your mom to handover that letter to them if they ask. They will find a way to communicate to her if they need anything. They can even bring a translator if needed. No need to worry. As everyone says, ask for wheelchair.

Just use wheel chair as suggested above. It is more reliable. My mom came and went back alone with wheel chair support. Only draw back of getting wheel chair is they will be assigned aisle seat, which my mom did not like since she wanted window seat so that she can lean over and take a nap.
