@mero_desh: Nepal puge pachi thaha huncha america chodeko swad. Do you even realize what people go through just to cross the border from the south? Going back to Nepal is like jumping back to the well you just got out from.
Here is a trick. Whenever you make a wire transfer to Nepal, send the amount in USD. Do not let US Banks convert that to NRS for you because as you just experienced, they take a big cut on fx rate conversion. Send it as USD and once the money gets transferred to Nepal into NRS account, the bank there will do the conversion from USD for you and in my experience their rate is much better than even these companies like Moneygram, Western Union and others. They seem to give you the rates set by Nepal Rastrya Bank the day they received the transfer and do not charge any other fee like banks over here do even when receiving international wire.
One thing to note, afaik, you can send up to 100k with the $45 or whatever BOA charges but a big international transfer (after 10k I think) goes through federal verification, so be sure you are prepared for that. As long as its legally made money, you've paid taxes on it and not sending to suspicious destination, you should be fine. I've transferred up to 30k and it normally takes around 5 days but the exchange rate is really good.
User "Cement" ko comment theek lagyo!
There is a way through Western Union FX. You have to get registered, once verified they will allow to send over $3k. I believe there is no predefined limit on transfer amount, it can be increased as you build good history with them.
Current transfer rate is 1 USD = 101.98 NPR.
I have made couple of huge transaction, and the user "cement" is absolutely correct. I used Chase and they didn't have option to send it in Nrs. but only USD, which I thought was bad at that point.. but later came to learn is the best way as the bank here would not take any cut in Foreign exchange rate. However, I have noticed a small $25 probably my the banks in the Nepal but other than that the exchange rate seems to be close to NRB.
Good bro..Nepal ma gayera khei garnu parxa..aba.
I am also planning to send ~30 K by the end of this month. I have sent via thamel.com at least 5/6 times. Have tried western union as well. This time, the amount is bigger, looking for उताको उतै यताको येतै kind of things.
