I am SQL Server DBA with 7 years of solid experience working Full time. I have green card and looking to relocate to Dallas/Austin/Houston area. What are top IT recruiting firms in those areas? Some of the ones I know are Robert Half etc.

I don't understand why the hell do you need staffing firm for Green card holders with 7 years of experience.
Just put the resume in Dice, Monster, Career Builder. You will get tons of calls everyday from the actual companies and recruiters.

Make sure you update your profile daily so that your resume comes on the surface everyday.

dhoti_prasad,

Top consulting firm has their contacts with the companies, companies not only post their job by themself for fulltime oppurtunities but they contact their consulting firm from whom they have been doing business for years. Your resume will be noticed first if you go thorough those top IT consulting firms because of the trust they have build over the years.

Yes you can apply through professional sites but there is a less chance of getting your resume picked depending upon the no of applicant plus sometime they dont post it online , rather they talk to thier consulting vendors to find a candidate and pay them. I hope I was able to answer your question about

Dear Mikel,

I am shocked with your explanation. I don't know where you reside.
I have never gone through staffing companies and recruiters. I am green card too with same amount of experience. I have never had problem in finding jobs where I reside. I would get tons of calls everyday from recruiters and direct companies.

Hope this will spark some light in your darkness.

Let me correct myself, When I say Staffing company I was never refering to some Indian consultancies with their emails that says "kindly revert back with your updated resume" or please do the needful.
My experience ,
On this current job, I was contacted by Volt for a full time opportunities on my company , I asked them will I be working for VOLT and they said no , they asked us to find a candidate to work for my X company full time.
I dont know if you have seen or heard somewhere but Sometimes companies looks for contract to hire , 90 days on contract and then they will hire you permanently and to fulfill that position , they need IT firms .
and yes I understand where you coming from , HR can contact you directly but whats wrong with doing both. If HR contacts you that is great but doesn't it makes sens to look for those top notch firms that deals with the main company directly with no BS in between?

These days experience isn't a big deal. Anyone can fake out years through consultancies and what not through those Desis.

dhoti_prasad,
Yes i could have put my resume publicly on dice/monster etc but speaking from experience, I get 100:1 spam indian consultancy calls which are of no good compared to calls directly from company HR. Now a days it is hard to find a position directly to a company because of all these consulting agencies. I wanted to work with good staffing company directly because as somebody mentioned, they have direct contact with HR

mikel,
Now you are almost there. Yes I did get many calls that were contract to hire. I would always tell them I would prefer direct hire.

For example if you are contacted for direct hire from MoonShine Consulting company who does project for Zylonex. Zylonex won this project from the Department of Defense. Here you are a full-time employee with benefits in MoonShine Consulting. Sometimes you may get a call directly from Zylonex which is very a common practice.

Sometimes MoonShine Consulting company may say you are in contract for 90 days and later you will be a full-time in Zylonex. Now it is up to you whether or not you accept this deal.

Come to DC. You will be flooded with offers. DC is very expensive city though but very high paying jobs.

I want to Dhoti_Prasad,
I have just started thinking about relocating and I will definitely keep that in Mind.
This company is investing a lot in training and learning . I want to get what I can before I leave. Flying tomorow for MSSQL Bootcamp for 9 days to florida . I should start looking for change as soon as I am back. I dont mind getting contract job as well for atleast a year and I can look for FTE in between my contracts but Just need a job before i make my descision to quit this cold place . (Always scares me when I think "WINTER IS COMMING" )

DC for sure have lots of opportunities, but only if you are a citizen. Most off course not all of DC contracts are Federal contracts. All federal contracts require you to be US citizen in 99% of the time. I live and work in DC, so I know this.
