Do not eat microwaved food, the radiation kills nutrients and may cause u cancer after prolonged use. You can get portable food warmers to warm your food when away from home.

Soak the daal for couple of hours..possibly overnight.
Then rinse it if you care.
Add water and salt(and other condiments as you desire) along to it in a non metallic pot..preferably covered
Turn on the microwave..duration depends on amount cooked and microwave power.

Btw I've also "heard" about this cancer deal with microwave. But i am skeptical about it.

Most of the plastics do becomes unstable and emit toxic fumes and leech out toxic chemicalswhen heated. And so same goes true when food is heated in plastic containers, which is true in most cases.  Now for sure no one uses plastic container to warm up food in conventional stoves. I guess that is where stigma with microwave comes from.

Btw non stick cookware uses teflon coating..which is some kind of plastic too.

And aluminium and copper pots also part out some toxicity in food.

Anyway hope you enjoy your microwaved daal.

Those who are hypercritical about microwave heating kills nutrients here is some clue that I know for fact. Microwave cooked food neither cause cancer nor destroy the nutrients. Every proteins or nutrients after heating gets denatured either microwaving or direct heating which does not effect for nutrients. In some cases like breast milk research has shown some damage on immune cells.

Second, microwave heats those which have water molecules inside it so you can't heat solid hard dry food (you need to put water in it). The way it works is by resonating wave that comes from microwave itself (usually longer even radio waves which are not harmful) inside the water molecules. Then water molecules vibrates in very high frequency equal to the microwave frequency producing heat that make your food hot.

However it is better to microwave foods in Clay (clay) or BPA free plastics. Usually plastics which are not BPA free can cause cancer. During the heating plastic will realse BPA and that mixed in too the food . So either use clay or BPA free plastic to microwave your foods.
