How do you bring TV to Nepal?
Now before you begin advising that it is better to buy TV in Kathmandu, this post is meant to help those people who want to bring a TV to Nepal anyway. So it is meant to be detailed and helpful.
Please share ONLY your personal experience.
- Specifically, how easy is it to bring a big screen TV? (from places like US, UK,)
- What is the process of bringing a TV with you? (Do you have to pay extra for the baggage (for a TV) or if the TV is around 20 kg then you can substitute your luggage for a TV?
- What do you do at the departing airport if you have a big TV with you?
- How reliable is the handling of TV (fragile) by an airlines company?
- How is the handling of fragile items at the Kathmandu airport?
- If your TV is let's say 50 inches, do they make you pay the custom fee? Is it strict, given that it is for your personal use?

Check the airline's policy, it depends on airline and which route you take.
TV is treated as a checked baggage, while the weight of modern TV isn't an issue, the dimensions is what may incur you extra charge. Again, check Airline's website for specific dimension.
As for handling, use the the original packaging.
As for customs, yes you have to pay, and it's based on size (50 inches is more).
Disclaimer: Info based on past experience, may not be current.
Anything over 32 inches will cost you about 15 thousand rupees, which is a guestimate on my part.
The hassle however is getting the TV to work as you might need a converter to get the TV to work in Nepal something like this "Orei XD-1090 Premium 1080p HDMI PAL to NTSC Video Converter (REIO Technology)" which is availaible on amazon.
I would recommend that you buy a TV in nepal itself as the cost difference might be a hundred dollars but you know that the TV will work from day 1.
If you do decide on taking the TV home, just go over to a UPS store and they will pack it appropriately so that even if they drop it from a 100 feet there will be no damage to the TV. As the airline to slap a fragile sticker and they are obligated to once you ask them. if you do that you will get the TV there without any damage. I still recommend you buy the TV in Nepal.

i took samsung 32" tv two years ago. the qatar airways treated it as a baggage and i did not have to pay extra. if it was over 32", i might have to pay over $200. they handled all the fragile material very well. At the kathmandu airport, there are some people who picked the tv and kept in a safe place. i tipped them Rs 200. After all the hassels, the tv could not receive and display any channels .

gone were the days when people used to carry tv back home.. these days hardly people even from malasya, dubai carry tv with them..its to old fashion...reason same tv is found in nepal as LG samsong n all mojor brand operate in nepal, ever in resonable cost..
tell u logic, tv manufactures in china comes all accross usa an then u bring them back to nepal al way long..via china or dubai ..then wats the point.. less than 32 inch its considered as luggage n more tan that u have to pay extra money fro airline n there in custom.

32 less is considered as luggage considering the fact that the person living abroad has stayed more than 6 mos or so, anything more than that bhansar lagcha per inch ko smth rupees- the thing is if you get a deal as in sale ma lets say 30% - somewhree around 70% then its prolly worth getting natra $300-$400 ma tv Nepal mai paucha 32 inch ko - or may be less
if you are taking a 50' TV via flight to nepal...you are living your life wrong.
