Hello All,

I am currently living in NYC and tired of the life here. I am planning to move out of here by next year. Currently, working as an accountant and trying to get suggestions as much as I can.

Any suggestions and information would be helpful?

Thank You.

What is your specialty? Account Payable / AR/ Payroll ...................?

Without a job you can not move , even having a job it needs to be stable. I am trying to find one around DC, trying  federal or state job what ever comes first. Unfortunately not having account payable experience I am limited to apply.

Well, my speciality is AP, little bit of AR, General Ledger, Journal Entries, reconciliations etc.

Regarding job, I am planning to move by next year. Even if i don't find one, I am going to move. Life here in NYC is expensive and need to settle down now.

Lol, than you are a bookkeeper not an accountant. Don't fancy it.

I have done all the works you have done except AP/AR is that makes me a bookkeeper?
I do not care what it says Staff Accountant / Junior Accountant or Accountant or Senior Accountant  or  Bookkeeper  in  title.

I need a job in accounting field  and which pays me as per my expectation.

I wish I had started as bookkeeper and learned more than what I did working as a Staff Accountant.

California , Sacramento area( Folsom, Roseville , Rocklin ..) Comparatively cheaper than Bay Area. Try Sutter Health, I see they have few open positions for accounting and they are pretty easy to get in with good pay rate and benefits.

same here @magorkhe1. Job title does not matter to me. As long the job pays well and i keep learning.

It is like if you say i will move next year, that will never happen.

Thank you for the suggestions - usr_name_not_Availab. But trying to stay around east coast.

With Account Payable experience it would not be hard to get a job in another state. Keep nice relationship with your senior for reference purpose. Over 80% hiring is done through networking.
I have applied for a job in Waco Texas, it says referred to hiring dept.  and it will die there.

VA/DC is expensive to settle down too. $450 for a nice Townhome. I think it's over rated and over priced. over $650k for a single family house.

What is important is you be happy right here right now! The idea of good, best, bad, and worst depends on your experience and level of intelligence. The world outside is neither good nor bad but is labelled as so based on our particular experiences.

Just a suggestion (as they're free), if you're into accounting, may be get a tax preparer license as well and open a tax/accounting business...Minimal cost compared to opening a store...And during tax season....you'll be employed, anywhere in the USA.....And if you take an insurance agent license as well (property/casualty)...then you may be able to provide that service as well...Since everyone needs insurance...you may just buy a small book of business from a retiring insurance agency owner....so with less than $30,000 in total investment...you may be able to secure yourself a very good paying job....

with accounting, tax filing and insurance knowledge as your weapons, you can conquer any territory....but if you find a territory which is filled with Nepali and Indians....that's a bonus...as they'll come to you as a go-to guy for their insurance, tax and accounting needs...they will feel at home...
