Has anyone traveled to India on travel document(RTD) ? Do we need to get Visa for India if travelling on RTD and how long would it take to get the visa? Indian embassy website doesn't provide enough information on travel doc for Nepalese citizens and I the embassy personal hasn't been much of help. Any issue on transit countries? What route would be best for travel to India with RTD? Please share some of your experience if anyone has done so. I have to travel very soon and my passport is no longer valid. Renewing will take a while from embassy but I have my travel doc and permanent resident card  in hand. Its an urgent trip that I would have to make. Please shed some lights on it if anyone has any experience on it.

Thanks in advance ...

Unless you have citizenship from other countries except for Bhutan and Nepal you do not need visa to travel India regardless of what documents(Passport/TD) you are using . Can you be more specific about what RTD is ?

@usboro. It's a refugee travel document. How do they know that we are a citizen of nepal when I don't have my national passport at the airport while entering India ? I guess rtd and greencard only mentions that I was born in nepal but will that be enough ?
Thanks for the response bro.

@sms,

Yes, you do need an Indian visa to go to India with a RTD. You can get one in about a week not including weekends. Be prepared for a phone interview although you may not be called. You cannot transit through Abu Dhabi with a RTD coz they don't honor RTD. It is best to fly direct if that is feasible for you. United has direct flights to New Delhi from New Jersey. Air India has direct flights from New York, San Francisco and Chicago. There may be more but I am not aware.

Thanks @furke bro. Anyone else with any experience/knowledge on it.

I was able to get hold of Indian outsourced agency for visa today and they asked me to put stateless as nationality while applying online and when I do so they require me to put stateless passport number. I don't get it what does that mean. Their online process is totally confusing and they don't accept walk in for visa.

My current status is GC  bases upon asylum and have refugee travel doc and invalid national passport(hand written pp)

Anyone that was able to get visa on travel document for India ,please shed some lights ?

Thanks.

The best solution is to apply Nepali MRP and travel on it. Thanks. It will take you 3 weeks max.

@sms,

Look at the Nationality section on your RTD. I believe it says 'Nepali'. Then you gotta put your nationality as Nepali in your online visa application form. Passport number is your RTD number.
Its not a good idea to renew your nepali pp as an asylee.

I am afraid buddy you need an indian visa to travel to India in RTD. The problem is they might refuse you the visa. A friend of mine was rejected the visa and hence, he had no choice but to apply for MRP to travel.
