Hello frns, what are your experiences about bringing these items here. So far my parents have sent me sukuti 3 times with some of my frns but 2 choti ya ko POE ma faldiyo. I brought some achar n sukuti with no hassle when I came here. One of my bestfriend is travelling home for dashain and I really want him to bring me some but I dont want those to be trashed again. Please share your experiences,Is some POE more strict than other or is there some trick to pack/hide?

Meat product is banned and do not ask any body to bring meat product and rice too . Do not invite trouble for no reason.
Tell your parent and friends not to bring.
You can tell you do not have but if they check and find it, they will face the consequences.

Any meat items (including sukuti) are prohibited from being brought to the US from another country. It was a matter of luck if the customs at POEs did not detect the meat items and if custom officer detects them, one or all of the following things might happen (i have seen it happen first hand):

--Customs will fine (charges depend on the inspecting officer but these are expensive charges) the person who is bringing the meat item at POE for not declaring the food item in the Customs form
--Customs will flag the passport of the person bringing the meat item in their system, so every time this person tries to enter the US from a trip abroad, he/she will be taken to a separate area and carefully checked and vetted - an unnecessary hassle

So, be very careful about bringing or asking someone to bring the meat items to the US

The exception is: any meat product being imported to the US has to be inspected and approved by USDA, in the case of companies that import meat products from abroad for commercial use

If you seal pack the food and put label on it, i don't see why not? You are not allowed to bring any kind of seeds though.

sukuti is a big no no...if you disclose, they'll trash it. if you don't disclose...good luck but if you get caught you'll be paying a hefty fine. achaar is fine...i (and my family members) have brought many times. and yes, like furke said...avoid seeds. bhutera/pisera lyauda chahi no problem.
