@bhetghat...... She needs to give USMLE exams one in Nepal and one in USA. If she passes the first phase of USMLE exam in Nepal, she can come to USA for the second phase of USMLE. After passing the second phase, she can start giving interviews and look for residency. It's a very lengthy and highly competitive process.

I just want to jump in and say a couple of things in regards to Saaney Gurung's rather depressing post. Of course, residency is competitive and expensive; however, it is not out of reach. There are numerous Nepal-trained physicians undergoing residency in the USA, and I do not think the application process cost anywhere close to $50,000.

One thing I would like to point out here is, Saaney Gurung might have seen so many rejected candidates, but what puts them in rejection pile is not having a good application (example, not having a good personal statement/ not describing experiences properly/ not understanding how to describe those experiences/ not knowing what the schools are really look at). I can say, if those students are trained better in application process, then they will have a higher chance.

I have a brother, who applied (on his own) last year, but did not a get single residency interview. This year, I helped him to shine/edit his application and so far he has got 5 interviews already. Therefore, people, it is more about what you write and how you write. If any of the students looking for residency needs such help. Please feel free to contact me. You can send me a PM and we can discuss in further.

If you have completed your Bachelors in Nursing from Bangalore and want to do MPH, then at first you need to have your foreign degree evaluated by your-choice-of-university-asked evaluation organization. Many university will take evaluation done by any members of NACES (list is here: http://www.naces.org/members.html). Some university will specifically ask for World Education Services (WES), and other will do the evaluation themselves. So, when you apply, look up the university policy for foreign students.

All university will have their own specific prerequisites for MPH. Once you have your documents evaluated, you will see if you have to take any courses in Bachelors or can directly apply for MPH. Anyway, there are too many variables here. So, unless you figure out which university you want to go, there is vaguely what you have to do. Based on my experience, I have seen a couple of MPH completed friends (Nepali, and non-Nepali) who are unemployed. Therefore, I would say do more research. MSN might be better for you if you have completed BSN already.

edipre, congratulations to you and your wife. I personally know how difficult it is. However, does "Ivy league" has anything to do with good dental school? It is OK to brag as our gene is Nepali, but Dental schools are very few in the US and almost all (if not all) are great. The primary question of this thread seems to be for public health school. Unlike professional schools, there are hundreds of PH schools and many participate in SOPHAS common application system. Most are not so good though. Good luck!

On a second thought. PH schools rarely offer scholarship. A 2 months IT training costs almost nothing, available to anyone who can read and write Englisn, and unless one is a retard, anyone can make 100K job within few months after the training. It is definitely not PH, but you can work with or supervise PH people if you target your jobs towards hospitals or insurance.

I heard that MPH degree in US is not going to get me anything and but that is one of the way to get into US. I will probably go for NCLEX and then RN once Im in US. Can you recommend any US universities that offer MPH degree ?

Namaste Shrestha ji.
I am sure the combination of nursing and MPH would take you to the research arena not in clinical practice. If research is your interest, please feel free to contact me. I work in the public health field.

Good luck.

Thank you Public Ji,
I wanted to go for Masters in Nursing. But looks like most of the universities look for 1-2 years of experience before you can apply which I don't have. Do you have suggestions on the degree and universities you can pursue in US that will help my nursing career?
