Reaching Nepali Embassy for Passport
I am trying to reach our Nepali embassy in DC to inquire about my passport, but I have failed. They have not responded to my emails ( info@nepalembassyusa.org), and the phone (202-667-4550) is never answered. Voicemails? No response even after weeks. I am not in the DC area to stop by. The online status from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says that my passport was dispatched from Ktm in April. Even if it takes a week for the package to arrive in DC and then another week to sort them out and send to respective addresses, I should have received it a while ago. Yes, I included a self-addressed and stamped envelope with my application package in Feb.
Does anybody have any idea about how to inquire about the status of a passport? As I noted above, mine is already made and should have arrived in DC by late April (was dispatched from Ktm before the earthquake). Should we expect some transparency and accountability from our embassy? Any tips? Or share your experiences here and we can crowd-source our suggestions to the new ambassador if he wants to change anything. Thanks in advance.
How did you check when it was dispatched from Nepal? Is there any online site to check that out?
Yeh, mine also is the same story. Those rascals haven't been picking up phone or reply any mails whatsoever.
Thank you Pepsi, that really helped.
I called DC embassy few times and asked some info on the new MRP form that they have on the site.
The morons' only answer was, "Sabbai website ma chha, tehi check garnus" every single time.

Lonely1,
Try calling early in the morning. They don't pickup in the afternoon. I received my passport on 38th day from the day it Dispatched from Ktm.
It was a month ago, I called there. You can press the extension to go to secretary of the embassy. Sometime this will help.
Good Luck.
The number of staffs in our D.C Nepalese Embassy is less than 10. And Nepalese population in US is increasing like a pig farm.
Inside source They have received 18 boxes of passport, and never had a chance to open.
Well, lucky me, we live around Washington area, little bit source force, going to pick on FRIDAY morning before the long weekend Memorial day holiday.
If you haven't heard from them till Thursday night, Msg,me privately, before 8am EST Friday, lets see what I can do for you when I go there.
Good Luck!!!
Here is how mine goes: it says Received on May 10 and Dispatched on May 19, though, I highly doubt those dates.
So, @Kaliya what you are saying is that it takes one of the most inept Govt. to make bunch of MRPs in 9 days and get it dispatched and people at our Embassy, who we've thought have now lived some times in US and may have become more civilized n efficient take more than a month to send the return mail? God plz save us being fcked by fellow Nepalese even after leaving Nepal.
Back in 2007, I was living in NoVA and made it lot easier to renew in person, now I am too at the mercy of these lousy Embassy staffs. Anyway, I hope to receive the new passport in another few weeks as I am leaving for another State in a month time and don't have any formal address yet. This uncertainty is killing me.
Doesn't dispatched mean dispatch from the "embassy to Nepal " ???and Receive means it has been received by the embassy ?
or did I understand it wrong??
They are the worst professional people.
I sent all my original documents.
They returned back my documents because I left one field empty and the printing area on paper was a little small.
They could not fill out one field even though they had all the original docs. And the prinitng area might have been off by not more than 2cms. Idiots.
Yes, my sister had to mail it twice.
Once for the form that has too many border lines and next time missing an alphabet somewhere.

Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and/or insights. And keep them coming!
Did you pick up your passport, then, Sexy in Sari?
Just wanted to add some positive note on this thread.
I had a good experience while reaching out to Nepal Embassy. 202-667-4550/51.
He was polite and answered most of my queries.
I should expect my MRP by end of May (as per the phone conversation). Let's see how it goes and i will update this thread accordingly.
I called them just now and they responded after few tries. I will get my passport by end of June. Yay :).
Keep on calling the number 202-667-4550/51 few times.
Sajha mitra, when was your passport dispatched from Ktm? Or when did you file the complete application with the embassy? I sent mine in early Feb. and the new one was dispatched from Ktm in April.

Yes it will take 3 weeks to get there in US embassy once they dispatched the passport and 1 week to prepare sending. So overall a month.
