Since Nepali Online Transfer service like Muncha.com, Thamel.com is no longer functional (anyone know the reason for the delay btw?), the next best thing seems to be MoneyGram or Western Union.
Does money gram or Western Union directly deposit to a Nepali bank account? Any other company which does that?
I used one of the Nepali online money transfer thing (I don't want to mention their number publicly), it wasn't the best experience. My money however reached the designated address but I was charged service fee + my bank charged me foreign transaction fee. I end up paying total of $75 just to send little bit of money through these folks, while it would only take about $30 from Western Union or moneygram. Maybe these guys were doing money laundering and I noticed this because my bank blocked the transaction due to their automated security features and these guys from online money transfer freaked out and started calling me twice a day. They recommended me to mention my bank that I actually brought something expensive through Nepal online. This is the heads up to anybody who is sending money to Nepal. I recommend bank to bank transfer (they provide better exchange rate than Western Union or Money Gram)
Western Union or Moneygram do not deposit to bank account. Use your bank account here in America to transfer the money to the bank account in Nepal.
I am very sure that Western Union and Moneygram will require you to present quite a few papers if you want to send 20k.
Couple of people have used Riya Money Tranfer but personally I'd go with Moneygram or Western Union since Nepali money transfer have stopped doing it for the moment.
Also New York area has Prabhu Money Transfer that seems to get high remarks.
Why don't you use the banks ? It will cost you 30-40$ wire transfer fee, can directly deposit in Nepal's bank and can take the money at prevailing exchange rate i.e w/o any deductions.
But I have the question the other way around.. How can you send money from Nepal. Can they directly transfer to the Banks.. If someone has done it can they elaborate the process please?
