There are many HINDI speaking communities in southern Nepal itself. We cannot simply have such anti Indian sentiments that we deny the rights of Nepali citizens themselves.

It is one thing to oppose any particular Indian government policies, but totally unnecessary and uncalled for to oppose anything Indian just for being Indian.

Like Kiddo and others said above, freedom of choice is an important part of being human and it is not a matter of national achievement to have to listen to Nepali music or have to eat Nepali food to show that you love your country.

At the same time as there are objections to listening to hindi music, it is baffling that there is rarely any objection to dancing to English music! If listening to Indian music is considered Indianization, then shouldn't listening to English music be considered 'Americanization'? But, wait, Americanization is sometimes held synomously with modernization, and as a nation it is better to move to modernization than to hang onto your roots and discourage any new trends.

I think, as a nation of intelligent people, we need to put aside simplistic knee jerk reactions to simple matters of individual choice and focus on bigger problems such as why politicians are not doing anything to make Nepalis' lives better, why the law of the land is totally undependable, and there are many other whys to consider..l

I was not trying to take sides on this issue because frankly, I see good points on both sides.

Would I love to see good Nepali songs being played on all Nepali gatherings? Of course.
Would I force people into listening Nepali music? Of course not.

I personally have not watched a Hindi movie or listened to Hindi songs in over a decade but that is my personal preference. That being said, I also do not listen to Nepali music or watch Nepali movies either. Why? We come back to the same conclusion -- there simply is not a good alternative. This seems to be the point of our agreement.

As I was trying to point out, the issue of Hindi songs/art, is but just one facet in a larger geo-political context of our country. In a ideal world, art would be free of agendas/propaganda but if we look back at the history, this has never largely been true on matter of every significance.

So, the solution, also another of our point of agreement, on both this issue would be to create our own art/music that can be enjoyed by ours and hopefully others around the world.

@ neo, in my view Indianization is more dangerous than Americanization to us atm because of the significance of our geological location.

@bathroom - As I said in my above post, countries around the world have used art/music to expand their sphere of influence throughout history. So, looking at the bigger picture, the geo-political status-quo has everything to do with art in general and music specifically.

शब्दार्थ प्रत्ययानाम इतरेतरा ध्यासात सम्करस तत प्रविभाग सम्यमात सर्व भूत रुत ज्ञानम I

Language, meaning, and conceptualization are always superimposed on one another causing habit pattern in communication. By practice of threefold inner discipline on their differences there arises understanding of the sounds uttered by all beings. (Translation from Sanskrit by S.V)

So according to the logic provided by Sajha_guru if you eat too many burritos you might end up Mexican, if you watch too many japanimation you might end up Japanese, or listen to too many hip hop music you might end up in the ghetto... lol !! C'mon mang... I mean if one wants to listen to music from TIMBUKTU what is it to you ? No need for paranoia..

Our cooking gas, petroleum, Maruti cars, TATA trucks, bicycle, motorcycles, roads and dams are all either made/built or imported from India. Not only Indian music are played in Nepal but also played in Zumba classes in US (sang by Daler Mehndi). United States never oppose if we hang our Nepali flag on roof of our house. Are Americans less patriotic ?

it's time to go back to India our mother land. Nepal was created in the first place by the Hindu kings who flew from India and for their own benefit established a country. They always considered country as their personal property. Nepal can not do anything without the help of India due to of our geological position.Nepali religion, culture, society, ideology everything is based on India. Our politics is run by India. It's better to be a part of a big nation rather than being a little confused identity all our life. I for one, will start introducing myself as an Indian from now on so there will be no confusion to others or myself. I love hindi music, curry, i shop at indian stores in the U.S and when i go to gasstations or restaurants won by Indians i see Nepali people working for them. Hell, when i try to listen to Nepali music all i hear is hindi music on Nepali fm channels. Even if i dig deep and find a Nepali music in youtube, it sounds just like a hindi music dubbed in Nepali. Nepali movies are nothing but pathetic copies of the Hindi movies from the 90s. Why have an identity of a servant working for a master , why not be a part of master and work for each other. The integration of Nepal to India will give Nepal a big boost on stability in terms of politics, crime, finance etc. The only side effect would be that it's won't be easy for Nepalis to get GC in the US and would have to stand with other Indians for 13 yrs for eb3 and 10 years for eb2 and forget about asylum. lol... Jaya Hind...

Wow really @Bathroom. Even by your standard, that is quite a stretch about what you said I said. Such a shame when even in a forum like this where everything I said is documented properly, people don't hesitate to put words in your mouth and stretch your argument. Shame!

where? what? whao? Please, please tell me you really don't believe what you just wrote and you are just trying to get in my nerve. Are you the same BathroomCoffee that has been in sajha for past few years or is this a new account someone has taken over?

In any case, your high minded interpretation does not make any sense to a simple minded like me. I cannot even think about stretching my argument as far as you have, being again, simple minded as I am. Please read my post for what it is instead of trying to dig up meaning that does not exist (at least in the direction you are headed).

holi is a hindu/indian culture come from hindu/indian religion, lol... but has to be celebrated with Nepali music? the holy i used to remember was nothing but throwing water balloons at from a month ago and day of holy just color each other and throw water balloon at each other in a sexually deprived society it was the most awaited time of the year for hormone raising boys,if you find chicks then u could abuse them in the name of holi . it was a sick frustration , afterall throwing water ballons in school bus to girls who would normally sit in the front of the bus and see them get wet or suprised when they got hit was a sexual thing to the society where if a boy and a girl would openly talk and hangout would consider an affair. that sure has changed now. back then it had nothing to do with dancing , tomato throwing etc.. lol... now holy is turning very much like Indian holi which they show on bolloywood.... it's alright because the original holi was INdian culture too and this new holi is also indian culture.. India /Nepal same same haha.. i'm hungry now i'm gonna go to a Nepali/indian cusine and eat tandori chicken made by Nepali guy /served by Nepali in a restaurant own by India... lol....

Sajha_guru," countries around the world have used art/music to expand their sphere of influence throughout history." In relation to the thread, that statement implicates that Nepalis dancing to Hindi Music video are mutants who are ensorcelled into Indian Influence ? lol !!

SAjha_guru,"So, looking at the bigger picture, the geo-political status-quo has everything to do with art in general and music specifically." Bollywood art is the secret weapon India is using from a geo-political status-quo to influence Nepal ? lol
