How nepalis pronounce their names after coming to the US
Just heard a friend of mine introduce himself as "amyaat" which was too funny. Granted that nepalis want to make it easy for amricans to call them but its funny when they happily massacre their own names to be accepted.
Amit becomes Amyaat
Anil becomes Enil
Arun becomes Erin
Binay becomes bi-naa-yay
Bhupesh becomes Bupaaish
Sujan becomes Shoejaaan
Amrit becomes Emrit
Sunil becomes Saniel
Puskar becomes Pushcar
Kiran becomes Kee-ran
Samir becomes Sam or Syammer
more later. ..
How about 'Shahi baba'?
To be reminded of 'Sai Baba' which is spelled with patalo Sa, and a whole new addition of 'hi' in lieu of just 'i', they come up with totally new name. I am like why do you have to do that? Sai Baba is easy enough for Americans.
And when someone question that they say....'Oh, that Sai Baba, no no, I have nothing to do with that' 'The truth of the matter is my last name is actually Shahi and I like people calling me Baba'. 'Because that makes me cute.'
I agree with you, dude. People come up all sorts of random things..... I 'stopped' paying attention to these nowadays.
Narayan becomes Ryan!
Badri = Bad (for real)
IDK haha Shahi Baba is my username here nothing to do with real name
Lot of times when funny things happen we just laugh it off and you will forget about it for the rest of your life LOL thats why I decided to write it down.
Kancho Ryan for Narayan is cool and makes sense. Otherwise it would probably be "nah - ryan". Bad for Badri is a bit excessive though! but whatever works.
one of my favorite one is how Ram Panta introduces himself
"Hi, I'm Rampant"
Back then when I was in the dorm around 2003/04.. there was one lady called Poonam...the other girls use to call her Poonam sis... & the khaire's at my dorm use to call he PooC..
Ritthey= Rickey (mafia wannabe)

Sajhamitra I don't think you read the topic correctly. I am talking about how Nepalis call themselves. I am not talking about how Russell Peters calls us.
RamanDip becomes Ram-in-deep
Lastname Neupane: New Pain
LOL I don't see myself changing the way it is pronounced :) ah if people are happy let them be happy, if changing how they say their name is the greatest achievement, let them :)
There are two types of Nepali in US. one type they use their same name but pronounce americanly(I created this word lol) and the other type they change their name and give them American name.Like some of the second type names are
pradeep-prad
radheyshyam-Rad
sanjeev-Sam
pratik- Patrick
Hari-Harry
Roshan- Roger
arjun- Rjohn
krishna- chris
etc
I remember one incident when a guy changed his name from राजकुमार to SonofKing or so (not prince)
Mostly first 2-3 letters are used
I don't see any unusual of nepalese changing their name in here...it's not only nepalese but other races too that shortened their names
William = Bill
Manuel = Manny
Robert = Bob
Richard = Dick ( I am still confused with this)
Edwardo = Ed
Chaurey you got the most hilarious one haha Anal Dixit. I wouldn't want to associate with him in any way shape or form
what a nonsense thread?? Who cares... just be proud of what you are. Make them work hard to get your name correctly. Take pride on your identity... who you are.
balaram gurung = balatkari gunday
