Need a travel companion for travel from Kathmandu to Houston
I need a travel companion from Kathmandu to Houston, Texas for my dad for second week of November. It will be highly appreciated.
Sajha should dedicate a special section for these posts. The only problem is success rate would be less than 1%.
Kiddo - I could not find anybody. But I chose the option of 'wheel chair' for the travel. And he traveled through Qatar Airways. I found some companions from Kathmandu to Doha and no one from Doha to Huston.
Actually, I found that travelling through wheel chair is as good as travelling with companions and even better in some aspects because the wheel chair attendant will take care of all travel formalities and documentation for you. They received him at Kathmandu, took good care during the travel period and handed over to us. Doha airport is similar to Kathmandu airport in the sense all workers are Nepalese.
And I agree, there should be a separate section for 'travel' in Sajha so that the information could be shared and useful tips would be handy.

Hi Kanchho:
Did you book ticket via qatar airways or travel agents? Is wheel chair guarenteed if that option is choosen? Do you need any proof(disability/medical/age) to choose wheel chair option?

I took help of travel agents. Going to airlines directly is more expensive than buying ticket from travel agents. I am not sure if the wheel service is guaranteed but all airports are wheel chair friendly. You will get one if you choose that option. Proof of disability is not required. My dad, in fact, is not a disable. This is a kind of assisted travel. And it was free for my dad. I think it is free for elderly people. One of my friend was telling me that she sometimes sends her kids back home with assisted travel option but she had to pay something like $200 per person for kids.
Thanks
Kanchho, from which travel agent you booked ticket for your dad with assisted service? I did not see wheel chair option in qatar airways site.
Anthony, I don't want to recommend a particular travel agent in this community site. Any travel agency should be familiar with this service. Please talk with your travel agent and tell them that you need wheel chair assisted travel. While booking your flight, they will make a note in the reservation to let airlines know. While checking in, tell the airliners clearly that you need wheel chair. The airlines office at the airport will can put additional notes for language, food, etc.. requirement.
