 Hi Guys,

I've read several conflicting posts about H1-B visa interview in Nepal and the requirement of dept of labor sticker here on Sajha.

1. Based on information on US embassy in Nepal, one can't make an interview from the US yet people have claimed here that they had an interview date before they flew to Nepal. Can anyone verify this?

2. Also, do you really need dept. of labor Nepal verification and life insurance sticker on your passport to avoid airport hassles? Someone posted about this last year. Has anyone been through this kind of scenario?

Much appreciated!

1. Try Yourself
2. Yes, unless you have some corrupt friend/relatives helping you at airport

Could you be more clear? Do you mean you have a H1 and now you are flying to Nepal and apply for the visa interview? I might be able to answer your question if you would be more clear on your question. You can also email me. Thanks.

This is the reply I got from US embassy in Nepal when I asked them the same question -

"In order to apply for a visa, you must complete the DS-160 online at the following webpage listed below. Once you come to Nepal, go to Nabil Bank with your filled application form, prepay and get your interview scheduled.  If you are constraint by the time and wish to obtain an appointment during your short stay, you may send a copy of your application form to a family member or friend who may pay on your behalf at the Bank and obtain an earlier appointment for you. The current waiting time to obtain an appointment is two business days."

So the answer to first question would be - YES

For 2, you might get bugged at the airport and need to bribe officials if you don't have labor stamping. I wouldn'r risk being denied at the airport for some stamping.

Good Luck.

Follow exactly what Bairagikancho said and you should be good. In terms of sticker from Dept of Labor, you need that in your passport before leaving TIA. Is it a hassle? Probabaly yes (since) it will take a whole day for you and you know how administrative things work in Nepal but not a impossible task. The place was somewhere near Tinkune last time when I did it.
To make things easier for you there will be lot of middle men waiting for you to help if you know what I mean.

All in all you should be just fine.

I got my H1 visa two years back from US embassy at Nepal. I sent my father to pay the application fee and got the interview date fixed the very next day after my arrival in Nepal. But I did not know about getting stamp from dept of labour in nepal. I didn't get it and was not bothered in TIA airport at the time of departure. Is this new requirement?
