Does anyone know where to get Nepali wai wai in Irving area? Any good recommendation for indian grocery stores in the area as the quantity of stores is a lot but quality chhai khattam.

Wai Wai causes cancer faster than anything else.

Why can't you all give up on that nasty food. Eat some whole grain cereal instead.

Sidster, people won't listen until it's too late. It might be hard to establish direct cause and effect relationship with these instant noodles and ingredients they use. But I've done search as you did, and I believe that frequent use of instant noodles are not good for our health. I used to search for wai wai (thai version) and used to buy the boxes of them; but no more of these noodles for me now.

Spice packets inside the noodles are the ones that are harmful.

Why would you want to eat NEPALI wai wai when you know that it didn't even bother to comply with our least stringent NEPALI standards. Mysansar reported that Nepali Wai Wai has failed Nepal Standards test and it has not cared to meet the standard.

Thanks Metta...atleast there is one person who agrees on the food standard. There were 4 people who laughed at my comment against instant noodles and that is not unusual. Many ghorkeys still love Wai Wai and its probably because its tangy spicy taste and the nostalgia of our Wai Wai eating childhood. The instant noodles were supposed to be the cheapest of all the cheap food for poorest of all the poor people but somehow we managed to give this a symbolic food of prosperity.

I have not met many Nepalese who make food a priority. Its important to eat good food because our body is what we eat. We should eat vegitables, fruits, whole Grain, nuts, green leaf and healthy protien ( vegitables and animal products).

So if we give space to healthy food first may be it will reduce space for plastic wrapped foods like Wai Wai, cheese balls, cookies, hormon raised animals, oil (especially the hydrogenated), less salt and other sodium excess food.

msg is only as bad as table salt can be, maybe lesser. There is msg in many products, it goes by other names too. Japanese people live longest and are healthiest and they use msg. Whereas, the health scare is real, same is true for sugar and salt and many other ingredients in life. People have been observed to use more salt in msg free soup, so there goes the health benefits out the window. I think msg in moderation is ok unless you found you are sensitive to it. So do not be happy if you see some snack that goes "MSG FREE!" unless you look at the FATS, SUGAR and SALT content as well. :)). There are other killers as well out there and more deadly.

i am guessing you guys were born in the US and have been eating whole grain natural food all your life. i was born in Nepal and i ate a lot of noodles growing up. i am sure a lot of us Nepali did it who were born in Nepal. I am not saying that it is healthy but a packet of noodle once a month is not gonna kill me.

I am sure you guys eat food outside like chinese take out, indian restaurant....what about the MSG there? do you guys always pack whole grain cereal for work or NEVER eat outside of the house? how about fertilizers sprayed vegetables that you buy from grocery store or do you guys grow your own vegetables?

this is not a debate about healthy and unhealthy food. i know what is good and bad and a lot of people are well informed but as human beings we do drift sometimes and eat unhealthy food knowingly.

its a good thing that Nepali have been well informed on different subjects but it is annoying when they quote websites (thanks to english 101 in college) to show themselves more knowledgeable and credible and act like they do not carry anything negetive qualities from Nepal as if all of their negetive qualities were washed away the day they landed in the US.

Parwasi,

i am guessing you guys were born in the US and have been eating whole grain natural food all your life.

I actually was eating way more natural food and less hormon food in Nepal than here in US. Eating natural is not a US thing. To talk about what we eat and its content may be is a US thing but back home about 20 - 30 years ago we ate way more natural whole grain food than what we are eating here in US and back home now.

Like i said earlier, its not easy to hold a food debate with Americans let alone a gorkhey.

As for you, if you are just eating one pack of wai wai per month then you do not have anything to worry about.

Biwash prabasi, you don't have to be born in US or Nepal to make healthy food choices.

Probably, eating wai wai once per month is within your tolerance and may not do much harm. But many nepali think that wai wai is a healthy food choice, and many parents give wai wai and other instant noodles as snacks to their kids every day in Nepal. We don't have any studies in Nepal, so we don't know what's going on. If you want to think MSG is less toxic than table salt, good luck with your belief; end of my discussion with freedom.

We all know that poison may be medicine or medicine could be poison depending on the amount we take. People have died by drinking water. But there are certain things we can live without, and MSG is certainly one of the compound our body doesn't need.

Japanese people may eat more MSG than us, and we see them as more healthy than us. But they may have made other healthy food choices and their diet may be better than ours giving them better immune system and higher tolerance.

In Nepal, cases of cancer and kidney diseases seem to increasing at alarming rate. We don't know exactly what are the exact causes.

Biwash prawashi, I eat outside sometimes and I don't eat organic food though I prefer organic. I am not trying to lecture or anything. We are exposed to so much toxic chemicals, and it is difficult, expensive, and not always easy to avoid all of them. All I am saying is that I would like to avoid these when I can. I don't say that US has the healthiest food, but it sure had made me more-informed on these matters. In Nepal, there's not much discussions on healthy food choices. I used to look for the wai wai and used to buy them in boxes because it was so much cheaper to buy in boxes. These days, I try to avoid eating instant noodles.

ठिकै छ तपाईं को भनाइ facebook ब्रो, अब अमेरिकामा भएकोले नै यस्तरी नकारात्मक रूपमा सोच्दो रहेछ भने अब नेपालमा गएर healthy खानाको कुरा कसरि गर्ने होला | It's not about only instant noodles (wai wai) that is not considered as ethnic nepalese food, unhealthy foods are everywhere. I enjoyed the following video, I hope some of you will enjoy it too.
