 Hi all,

I have a qn regarding state tax.

Right now, I am working remotely for a company at texas. I am currently at NY. In my w2, it does not show my state tax but my tax auditor is telling me that since I live at NY, I have to pay the NY state tax. I am kind of dilemma whether I should pay or no ? Any idea ?

you pay tax for the state where you earn your income. I assume you got W2 from your company for last year, so in the W2 look at what the tax is (Texas has no state tax), if there's none, then you only file for the federal tax (given that you didn't do any other work in NY).

You are residing in NY, definetly you have to NY state tax. There is no state tax withheld and you will be paying 6.45 % of your total income. Certain state start charging penalty and interest if the tax due is over certain amount. If you live in MA , you must have health insurance otherwise you will pay extra penalty.

Suggestion: Start withhelding NY taxes from your paycheck.
