More Nepalis have access to mobile phones than toilets, the Census report made public today shows.

According to the report, 64.63 per cent of the households in Nepal have access to a mobile phone. However, only 61.83 of households in Nepal have a toilet.

The government has set a targeted of providing access to water and sanitation to all by 2017. It has also promised to provide safe water and sanitation to 73 per cent and 53 per cent of the total population respectively by 2015 –– as per the promise made under the Millennium Development Goals

Compare to Indian: We are better. However, only 61.83 of households in Nepal have a toilet. Only 46.9% of the 246.6 million households have lavatories while 49.8% defecate in the open. The remaining 3.2% use public toilets. Today, nearly 74% of India’s population, over 880 million, own mobile phones.
