@tonyk: Unless you have siblings(younger brother or sister who is unmarried or elder brother married will also help ), it is difficult to show strong family ties to the country. But i dont mean all of the parents having single child were denied visa. Yes they do but they have to show other proofs like lots of property and business in home country, proof that they have travelled and returned back from other countries like u.k, singapore, canada, thailand etc.

My parents also got visa rejected yesterday. They showed enough bank balance, property above 3 crore, business, dad's job in govt office, leave letter from the job and good income source.
The VO even didnt clearly gave the reason for denial. The answer was "Hamro Law Le Dina Mildaina". cause 214 (B).

I heard most of the parents were denied visa yesterday and all of them sad. We need to discuss more and find out good ways to get visa for our parents. we need to share knowledge and experience nepali people ...............like the indians do...

Most colleges don't do graduation ceremony in December. They do in May for December graduates. Your university having convocation in December or May?

40 parents applying in a day wow. This is not a school starting season so may be all are parents.

I think they don't want tourist from Nepal during christmas as they don't want to overcrowd NY

One thing what  Nepali American citizens(sons and daughters) do is as soon as sons and daughters get citizenship, they apply GC to their parents so that they can get senior citizen bhatta for their parents from American government which is actually taxpayers money. That is why I guess the consulars are angry with old people.(my guess)

@mno: haha most universities conduct convocation twice a year, some do even thrice ... (december, may and august). . Also its not because of medical issues that embassies deny visa for ppl 65 and above. Every one in visitor visa needs to purchase insurace while coming to usa. The reason is simply ties in the home country. And people aged 55 and above have high chance of getting visa then people below age 55 .

If application cost isn't an issue, then there's no harm in reapplying. I'd definitely have my parents reapply if I were in your position.

Kaliya, technically you can visit the United States any time until the expiration of your visa.

kasai ko visa payera ni audhaina
kasai ko bhane visa ni paudaina

visa approval needs strong realtionship with monetary support and convince that he/she will return back.

I am not a conspiracy theorist, but I have seen a pattern of visa denials and approvals in second-third tries. US Embassy in Nepal charges a hefty fee for the application and is now collecting twice-thrice amount from a single applicant.
While, the Embassy has all the rights to reject on fair grounds; a pattern indicates the end goal might be different. The issue is that there probably isn't much we can do anything about it; as we are the ones in need of those visas and to grant or not to grant is the Embassy's call.

Having said that, I agree with the advice to reapply. Money and land in Nepal isn't enough; you have to present actual proofs of why you would come back. A good job back home helps; if you have immediate family members for whom you would come back; show that reason. Anything that anchors you back to Nepal will help.

Keep trying till you get it.

US consulates in the third world is nothing but a goose that lays golden egg for them. Take a small and poor country like Nepal, about 300 applicants apply for US Visa everyday, that is 300 * $160 = $48,000 per day, $48000 *5 = $240,000 per week, $240,000 * 52 = $12,480,000.00 per year.

Now we know US has a huge operation in Nepal. Their massive embassy compared to the size of the country they are in is not just for the country itself. It makes economic sense for them to deny as much visa as they need so that people who can afford multiple applications would keep on applying for the visa over and over. I believe this is the number one reason for parents not getting visa. Number two reason is their obvious goal of not letting JUST about everyone have access to their country and some are effected by that too.

Unfortunately, we this is  the price we pay  for belonging to a third world country.

I disagree with the notion that we're 'unfortunate'. What about 10s of millions of dollars sent to Nepal from the states as remittance money? What about the standards of Nepalis' lives that rises once they come to the states? Sure, you can argue that they're likely to struggle through different phrases - be it as a student, unskilled workers or even a fob in the form of a DV winner but it's only a matter of time before their hardwork pays off and they start making significantly higher than what they'd do in Nepal, typically.

If anything, it's mutual benefit, imo.

 Thanks guys..

My parents have a business in Kathmandu and they showed everything..stores, house, lands..I don't know what else they need to see and the reason they gave was " sambandha ramro chaina "  that's it! So frustrating. I wanted them to reapply but they don't want to anymore because they think they are gonna be denied again

आमा बाउ ले visit गरे पछि त, you are sure to not return to Nepal for next few years and get any job in america to be in status obviously - unemployed US citizens rising -

बुढो आमा बाउ लै भेट्न भए पनि नेपाल फर्किन्छ भनेर नदिएको होला | Just my thought. else you will not return Nepal without H1B or GC भनेर होला| The probability of not returning to Nepal might be next 3 - 10 years depending on your situation.

I think the reason that they deny visa is because you are only a single offspring and therefore there is no strong ties or evidence that your parents will return back to the home country. You can blame other people who came here on son's graduation ceremony or tourist visa and stay here illegally applying for Asylum due to which it makes harder for legit people like yourselves to get a valid visa.

Blame is people from our country who tend to stay here illegally applying asylum even though we can live in our country well enough.

Just my two cents.

Peace

अमेरिका बाट cash मा काम गरेर tax नतिरी  आमा बाउ लै पैसा पठाउछ (not all people do) , तेही पैसा Ameican embassy ले फेरी get back to American citizen. होइन त साथि हरु
They might have secret authority to check how much money are coming into your parents account from america.

My experience:

I do not think showing big bank balance or property guarantees visitor visa to the USA.  Most  important things are:  family ties, interview, good application letter to consulate asking for granting visa to your parents or inlaws.

In my case, I asked my parents not to show anything else other than letter from my father's office.  However, I asked him to take other documents with him if they ask you to show property or bank balance.  In my case I has explained in my letter to consulate that I wil be taking care of my parents expenses when they are in usa and will make sure they will return back to Nepal before their legal stay is over.  In addition to the letter, I had sent w-2 form, three recent pay stubs, my bank balance in the USA which was less than 10K, relationship document (father/mother and son/daughter), and visa application.

I also did for my inlaws.  I did in a similar way.  I asked my inlaws to include my letter to consulate office, my pay stubs, tax return document, bank balance and relationship document of my wife and her parents.  it worked for us.  I really do not think huge bank balance or property will enhance the chance of getting visa.  A proper documents in order and acceptable answer during interview are important factors in my opinion and experience.  Note that, in both cases I communicated with my parents and inlaws before the interview and told them what to speak and how to speak with them.

huge bank balance.  Huh. and two three property Huh. Counsular must be thinking these people are richer than us -americans. All dollars (billion $) pouring into Nepal. So lets लुतोs back those dollars from nepalese in the name of visa application fee.
