Baseball season is around the corner. It's time to evaluate teams and would love to hear from other baseball fans.

Here's my take on each division:

AL West:

1. Anaheim: new ownership…. Signed best free agents Colon (pitching) and Guerrerro (outfielder)…. Enough bats to win the division.... awesome lineup with Erstad, Anderson, Guerrerrro, Glaus and Salmon lineup? 3-4-5 can have 350 RBI season together. good starting rotation with Colon, Washburn and Ortiz. Troy Percival is still there to close the game.

2. Seattle: No big signing. Ichiro is a true ALL STAR. Need healthy Freddy Garcia. Boone should have great season after mediocre season. Big void left by Sasaki.

3. Oakland: still one of the best 1-2-3 (Zito, Hudson, Moudler) pitching rotations in the league. Departure of Miguel Tejada will be felt big time. Not enough firepower in offense to keep up with Angels and Mariners.

4. Texas: rebuilding process…. Who did you replace AROD, Palmerio and Gonzalez with??? Good luck Fonso....
AX Posted on 09-Mar-04 09:12 AM

AL West

Best Line up: Angels (Anderson, Guerrero, Glaus)
Best Roatation: As (Zito, Moulder, Hudson)
Best Bullpen: As (Arthur Rhodes, Rincon)

Division MVP: Guerrero

HA HA AX Bro!!!!!! You went for AL WESt huh?? Must be trying to figure about AL East huh??

Here is how it will look like. I will post the description sometimes later. So keep the question of HOW?WHY for yourself.

1. Boston Red Sox
2. NY Yankees
3. Toronto BlueJays
4. Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
5. Baltimore Orioles.

The only the debate would be about No. 4 and No. 5. Yankee fans would claim Yankees to be no.1. But... only the Yankees fans alone do not make up for all the Baseball world?? Or maybe some Red-Sox haters might also bet for Yankees.
AX Posted on 09-Mar-04 11:50 AM

Thanks for the post Proud bro.... we already are talking about AL East race in another thread so went to AL West :)

I will post some other time what I think about AL East....
DWI Posted on 09-Mar-04 12:32 PM

And good division to pick at that AX. After AL East, AL West has to be the best division. Anaheim is definately the favourite, although Oakland is always a threat. Seattle has been too neutral past two years. Texas? well we can just thank them for A-Rod.

Hey All,
Let me participate too.

Houston does have a real good team with Oswalt, Clemens, Petitte, Wade Miller and a very good batting lineup. However, my choice in NL this year is Cubs. They have a great pitching staff (Prior, Woods, Maddux, Zambrano, can’t remember the other one), good bats and a great manager. NL Central will be a good division to follow, as AL East.

AL West:
Angels are the team to beat in the west. Good pitching staff. Not so sure how Vlad’s health will be. I don’t think Yankee would have taken a pass on him so quickly. I heard Vlad Gueroro is a bit fatter reporting to the camp. He is a great player when healthy.

Love the A’s pitching staff (Big 3, new kid Rich Harden, and Redman), however no great batting line up. Not sure how far they can go with their OBP funda.

Mariner's are ok this time. Hope Ichiro will be healthy.

Texas =baaaaaaaad. Infield coterie are real good. All young players. No pitching at all. They wil have a 100+ game losing season.

More later………..

BTW…..GO SOX……..
AX Posted on 23-Mar-04 12:00 PM

AL Central: I think this is the worst division in AL....

1. Kansas City Royals: now we know what they can do with their last year performance... with the signing of ex MVP Juan Gongalez, Mike Stairs and Santiago should improve their batting lineup. Pitching rotation is okay but relievers seem shaky... have good role players.... could be first postseason after they won it all in 1985..

2. Chicago White Sox: still have decent pitching rotation with Loaiza, Bueherle and Garland even after loosing Colon to Angels... Frank Thomas and M. Ordonez will carry the offense... is the closer Billy Koch really healthy?

2. Detriot Tigers: this is the team which signed really good players.....
Pudge, Vina and Rondell and Guillen all signed as free agents could boast the
woeful lineup, Pudge will help out the young pitching rotation.... Will have
winning season I won't be surprised if they win the division, this
is how bad this division is

4. Minnesota Twins: have good starting pitching staff with Radke, Santana and Helling. A lot will depend upon how Tori Hunter will perform, he is a true ALL STAR.. Shanon Stewart will anchor the not so great batting lineup.... lost relievers LaTroy Hawkins and Eddie Guardado....

5. Cleveland Indians: still rebuilding???

AX Posted on 23-Mar-04 12:18 PM

Best Line up: KC Royals (Gonzalez, Sweeney, Santiago)
Best Roatation: MN Twins(Radke, Santana, Helling)
Best Bullpen: Chicago White Sox (Koch, Wunsch, Wright)

Division MVP: Ordonez (Chicago White Sox)
AX Posted on 02-Apr-04 09:08 AM

NL Central : most competetive division.... too many great players....

1. Astros: Impressive starting rotation with Clemens, Petite, Miller and Oswalt... Clemens, as in NY should provide leadership to young talented pitching staffs... This has always been good offensive team... with remaining killer Bs(Biggio, Bagwell, Berkman) to go with Jeff Kent, Hidalgo and Brad Ausmus hard to pitch around. If Hidalgo can repeat his last year performance, noone wants to face this team, not even CUBS pitchers.. OD have big void to fill left by Billy Wagner..

2. Cubs: With good coach, they are back in hunt again.... could this be their year? they were 5(?) outs away from the World Series... league best 1-2-3 (Wood-Prior-Clement) rotation to go with Zombrano and Maddux. Maddux will be great help to young starters... batting lineup seems shaky, don't have anybody else Sosa and Alou... D. Lee is a good pickup. bullpen is okay

3. Cardinals: with other 2 great teams in the division, they have fallen behind. Signing Pujols to long term was a good sign, triple crown year??? No major trade... Albert Pujlos and Scott Rolen will have 225 RBIs between them. E. Renteria will have 35 HR. Edmonds will put up big nos 30 HR, 100 RBIs, won't be surprised if they get big name pitcher in the middle of the season. good bullpen with Isri closing.... (sleepers)

4. Reds: This team depends mostly on Juniors' nos. He should have the best season as Reds uniform. Sean Casey and Barry Larkin is good help. not enough talents...

4. Pirates: signing Mondesi won't take you anywhere in this competitive division. Kendall will have his nos.

5. Brewers: boyz in the big league, time to trade Ben Grieve?

Yankees started the season slowly. With the good offensive players like AROD, Jeter, Sheffield, Bernie, Giambi, they were having tough time producing runs. Yankees ace Mussina has already lost 4 games and does not have same velocity in his fast balls. Yankees struggled mightily with Boston Red Sox loosing 6 out of 7 games. After sweeping A’s and KC Royal their record is 15 -11 and tied for 1st place with Boston Red Sox. Yankees beat out Oakland A's again last nite with 6 runs in the 7th inning. Yankees offense punished Mark Mulder with 13 hits in 6 1/3 innings. They are in an impressive 7 games win streak now.

Red Sox opened their season with impressive 15-6 record. With their great off season roster make over (pitching), they seemed the team to beat in star loaded AL East. Some baseball pundits even told this is the best Red Sox team ever and will win the championship. They have the best pitching rotation and vastly improved bullpen. After Pedro's declaration to test the free agency, they lost 5 in a row. It will be interesting to see what will happen....

The Boss Speak out
ProudNepali Posted on 06-May-04 12:04 AM

.....SO what is your peak?? I know you are a die-hard Yankee fan. Still interesting to hear your thoughts.

Teams like TIgers and Rangers had surprised all. The defending champions are playing like the defending champions.. rest are doing as predicted.
Good to see the Yankees picking up their pace. THe MUSe is offf for a while. Don't know what to expect.
THe yankees are more like the Red-Sox of the 2002-03 season. Good picthing prospects and working bull-pen but with really explosive batting lineups.

At the moments the Yanks and The Soxs are both tied at 16-11. The Sox had already won 6 games against the Yankees so we are four games away from taking the series.
Yankees follwed a sweep (by the hands of the mighty SOXs) with 7 straight wins. On the other hand.... The Sox followed the 6 straight wins with four straight loses. Tonight the batting lineup revived. Thought, it's gonna be a long night.. but they ended the losing streak with a good win.

Red Sox is obviously not in its full-strength. the pitching prospects are all healthy.... though not delivering in the last 4-5 games. The biggest concern is the batting lineup. Somehow runs had been stopping to come on regular basis. The team's average is wayyyyyyyyyyyy below what it was last season. Oh yeah.. Nomar and TRot are not there.... stilll the SOX is the team that is supposed to putting huge numbers no matter what they have in store. With Both of the superstars and teamleaders back in the lineup pretty soon, the score should increase in a notable fashion. Then the team should be of a higher rating than that of last year. I don't think the Yankees can overcome the Red SOx this season. They lost 6 of 7 without Nomar and Trot. I guess the Yankees will be happy with the split in the remaining games.

GO Red SOx go. This is the year to be.

Ax, hey Baseball is alive. Keep it going.

Cubs vs Red Sox.

Both of the above teams are Wild Card candidate if any. I think Twins will snatch American Central.

Mets lost today but they are playing good. With defense back to their potential and pitching strong as always, they just need some good hitting. They aren't a playoff team and they don't claim to be one. They are gunning for 60-80 wins and I think they will get it. I still think they should've traded Jose Reyes (injury prone) for Soriano.

GO YAAAAAAAAAAANKS (will somebody tell those reporters to get off the back of Cap'n Jeter)

Ken Griffey Jr., member of the All-Century Team and the Players Choice Player of the Decade of the 1990s is back on terror. Pitchers are again scared to pitch him. Currently he has league tying 17 Home Runs. He had sub par seasons since he was traded to his hometown team REDS in 2000. He is only 2 HR shy of reaching 500 HR club.

Before he got hurt, he was regarded as the best center fielder ever to play the game (other prominent center fielders are Mickey Mantle, Joe DiMaggio, Willie Mays and Ty Cobb) He used to be regarded as the only player who could surpass Hank Aaron's HR record of 755. If he would not have hurt past 2 ý 3 years, he for sure was going to break the record with the pace of HR he was hitting.

Griffey finished the 2000 season with 438 homers. He was only trailing by only 56 to Barry Bonds (5 years older than Griffey) He seemed ready to reach 500 in early 2002. Unfortunately shoulder and ankle problem with hamstring sidelined him.

What you guys think of comparison between him to current HR leader Barry Bonds?

here's what two cnnsi people think of them:

I thought AL East division supposed to be most competitive division in the league. Itýs no surprising Yankees are leading the division again and has the best record in the league. Red Sox are 3.5 games behind Yankees and have become so uncompetitive division. Other division are very competitive (only 1.5 games diff betn 1st and 2nd place teams) especially NL Central. AL East teams like Yankees, Red Sox and Orioles teams signed the most coveted free agents (Tejada, Sheffiledý) and traded for the superstars (AROD, Schillingý)

Whatýs going there in Red Sox nation? I thought this was the year for you people. What happened now??? If you are wise, you better trade your players (who are in their last year of contract) for good prospects so you can have better ball club in future.

Red Soxýs players who are entering last year of their contract:
Pedro (Starting Pitcher - Ace)
Lowe (Starting Pitcher - 3rd starter)
Nomar (Starting Short-stop
Varitek (Starting Catcher)
Reese (Starting 2nd baseman)

charankhe Posted on 14-Jun-04 11:29 AM

Hey,

So typical of a yankee fan. You were hiding when the Yankees were doing bad, when Red Sox swept you guys in NY, when your captain was hitting under the Mendoza line (Is he still hitting under .200).

I think it's better to look at your team before you comment on other teams (reminds me of a nepali ukhaan, afno jiu ma bhaisi nadekhen and aru ko ma jumra dekhne....). I think it's you people who should be concerned. Concerned of Kevin Brown's back, Moose's health and the team chemistry with guys like Sheffield and Lofton. Check what's happening to Lakers without the team chemistry.

To be honest, I am concerned about Schilling's knees more than anything. Pedro and Lowe are coming back, Wake's knuckleball will dance (btw, is knuckleball same as googly in cricket). With Nomah and Trot coming back, hitting will come and of course we have Pokey power. Did you see his snag y'day?

As being AL East being uncompetitive, let's not speak so early. Red Sox and NYY (prefer calling them MFY) will be there neck and neck. And last time I checked we are 6-1 against you. Orioles were never there unless they get pitching.

later......
AX Posted on 14-Jun-04 11:58 AM

charankhe, you mite be new to this site, we have been talking about Baseball and other games past 2 years.

I just have to say it's not that fun when it is not competitive. Captain Jeter is hitting .247 to be exact and it wonýt be long he be hitting .314 his career avg. And he will be playing in All Star at short stop as a starter :)

charankhe said ýRed Sox and NYY (prefer calling them MFY) will be there neck and necký
yeah you are right. the last time I checked it was 1918 ;)

I feel sad for Lowe though, he is a good pitcher but it's not going great for his this year. He mite already have lost few millions for the next contract. Schilling landed to DL. What happened to that Korean dude? He is a nice bait and we love him here in Yankee Land.
charankhe Posted on 14-Jun-04 12:22 PM

Well I have been following :)

All-star voting is a farce. Nomah was leading when he hasn't even played a single game. 1918 chant is the most overrated :) cliche in sports. And can the MFY come up with any other chant than 1918.......be creatve.

Koreans are good only in Taekwondo :) heard he is in US.

Let's hear abt the Kevin Brown's back and Mooses problem, and Conteras mental case, and Lieber's arm and whoever your other starter is. Well Vasquez has been goon. Hitting is good too. Maybe Sheffield and Giambi introduced the other players to the THG thing :)
AX Posted on 14-Jun-04 12:42 PM

Brown and Moose will miss their next start. They are not old like Schilling ;)

Brown and Moose will miss their next start. They are not old like Schilling ;)

The Cuban Missile is trying to find his target at the means time another Cuban great El duque is coming back. I agree Yankees are one pitcher away from being the champion again :)

Can you please find out if Nomar can play 2nd base? Trio of AROD-DJ-Nomar sounds good. Money is never a problem in Yankee land :) we got the lumber, what was the record for the team HR and RBI?

heard of bamino curse??? :p

But on the ballot, what surprises me is Mike Piazza still commanding so many votes from fans for Catcher spot.
Mets sure are alive and kicking.
I am a Yankee fan. But living in NY, Yankees are like the good child who you don't have to care much. Mets are the spoilt one whom u are very attentive to, otherwise they will screw themselves up.

Play ball.
AX Posted on 24-Jun-04 05:03 PM

DWI bro, Baseball is the sports I like the most. (Yankees may have something to do with it). I love keeping stats of players especially American League. Not being in NY, I don't get to watch games that many unless it is nationally televised. I went to 2 Yankees game with year (vs Angels and Dodgers) and they won both games. They looked solid especially the left infielder with combo of AROD and DJ2. Even having so many star players you donýt hear players squabbling each other on and off the Yankees clubhouse. I think this is the year to win it all.

Yeah i was going to vote Piazza as a catcher too (and I am, else piazza canýt get in as first baseman) I don't follow NL teams that much and never liked METS. He should be DHing in AL.

Hereýs my list for NL allstars:
